= Durability = Fun = Educational = Overall Republic Gunship - Best of the best, January 16, 2009 My young son wanted this for Christmas. It is a very challenging build - it took us four hours!
Once built, my son loved it and it is his favorite set. We both were dissapointed with a couple of things but overall it is by far one of the best Lego sets ever.
Pros:
Republic Gunship is large and looks great. It is based on the Clone Wars version and is very detailed.
It includes all new mini-figs like Obi-Wan, Commander Cody, Asaj and Plo Koon.
The decals include an extra cockpit design so you have a choice between two designs.
Cons:
It includes decals instead of painted bricks.
No pilot minifigures. For the price, Lego should have included two pilots and at least 4 clone troopers. If they had, this would really be the best set ever made. My son had to wait until we could find a battle pack to get him some troopers to man it.
The back of the vehicle is very dissapointing. It basically is wide open with a single arch support and door that lowers to allow a speeder bike to fit inside. I don't think this was necessary as a Republic Gunship typically doesnt transport speeder bikes, it carries troopers.
Over all it still a great buy, as they have brought back one of the finest sets ever made for the price and improved on much of it.
LEGO Star Wars: The Clone Wars Republic Attack Shuttle Set
= Durability = Fun = Educational = Overall Not quite what we expected, January 16, 2009 I just bought this for my son who is a Lego and Clone Wars fan. I had to build it for him since he is still too young for the tougher projects. He seems to like it, mainly because its not as heavy as the Republic Gunship that he got for Christmas. (He can hardly lift that one).
Pros:
Includes a pilot trooper, which goes well with the Gunship set, as well as another clone trooper and new Mace Windu figure with purple saber.
The wings fold up for landing.
Cons:
Not enough figures with this set for the price.
Unlike the Republic Gunship set, this only realistically holds three people - two pilots and a passenger. Not quite what you expect from a 'shuttle'.
It looks like the shuttle from the movie, but the scale for the cockpit area is too small; their is no room for the front loading door or extra passengers like in the movie.
The flick firing missiles and mechanism in the cover take away from storage space that can be used for more troopers.
Recommendations:
Once built, remove the entire mechanism that launches the flick missiles. Cover up the hole in the bottom with a flat 2x8 plate and add two more seats to the storage area in a strait line. Do this and the lid will close with the extra figures in place. My son doesn't care for the flick missiles anyway, and he loves the extra storage I made for his troops.
