Well worth the money February 3, 2008 Reviewer:  Mil Mom (Eglin AFB, USA)  See all my reviews >

The shelf is easy to put together and works as an additional toy shelf. I have had both this one and the larger bookcase/shelf for 3 years and if you use the wall anchor( included) it is very stable. They both have went through 2 moves.

Great value for the money - I bought 2! March 11, 2008 Reviewer:  A's Dad (New Jersey)  See all my reviews >

Even for the regular price, this is a very good value. I have a similar size and style bookcase that I purchased years ago from a well established furniture manufacturer. It is very well made. Solid and great durable finish. This Target bookcase is not as well made as that one, but it is 25% of the cost.

As some other reviewers stated, the finish is very matte and with some slight chips. Maybe the chips are more noticable in the white finish bookcase. There are thin seams between the shelves and side pieces once assembled. That's the bad news. However, for the price, it really can't be beat. What really impresses me is the stability of the base. Even my more expensive bookcase wobbles when placed on carpet so I need to use a wall anchor. This bookcase is solid even on carpet. From 5 feet away you really don't notice the seams or imperfections. For a kids room, den, or basement play area, this is great. It is very functional and has a bit more style than your average "box" bookcase. Kids love the cubbies.

I bought 2. It took about 45 minutes to assemble the first and 20 minutes for the second. The first has a tighter fit especially in the back wood panels. You had to gently fit them into place, but this proved to be a plus. The second bookcase was easier to fit these panels into the slots, but once fully assembled the second bookcase wobbled about a quarter inch from side to side. This wobble was easily fixed by sinking a few half inch screws into the back of the bookcase between the panels and frame. Now the second is as stable as the first. You can also add a diagonal brace in the back between the 2 sides, but that's probably overkill.

Assembly is a breeze. The hardware is partitioned into multiple baggies. Each labeled with the number of the assembly step that uses those parts. You really can't go wrong. All you need is a sloted screw driver to turn the cam locks. Also a "real" phillips head screw driver is helpful since they one they supply is so small it will take very long to sink the screws.

I highly recommend this bookcase for the certain situations I noted above. If you have a room with $20,000 worth of furniture, this is not the right addition. For kid's rooms or family rooms it's well worth the money.

Perfect addition! January 23, 2007 Reviewer:  Sam M "Sam M" (Louisville, KY)  See all my reviews >

I purchased this to accompany the Aspen Simplicity crib (honey color)...perfect match of wood. I am 5 and a half months pregnant and I put it together myself without any difficulties! The directions are great...10 simple steps. The hardware is in neatly labeled packages also. It took about 45 minutes because I took my time. I did not have any problems with the pieces fitting at all. You just have to make sure you secure everything tight as you go along. I did not have any gaps...I did not get any splinters either. This is one of the sturdiest bookcases I could find for the price. A definite keeper!

Looks nice but.... April 29, 2007 Reviewer:  Smart shopper "Rob" (Hollywood,FL, USA)  See all my reviews >

I found this online and purchased it from the store. The piece looks very nice , especially for the price, but the quality is horrible! When I was seperating pieces to assemble the product I noticed 90% of them were warped and splintered. After the easy assembly was accomplished the bookcase was not sturdy at all. I wish the construction and material quality was better, as I like the looks. I felt I should leave this review due to the fact I based this purchase on the other reviews this product received. Turned out to be a big waste of time! All said, I will be returning this to the store today. Keep looking!!

Perfect size July 27, 2007 Reviewer:  MellyBelly (Florida, USA)  See all my reviews >

This bookcase is the perfect size for all the books, toys, and decorations (lamp, frames) for your nursery. It was fairly easy to put together, but had some gaps. But for this price, it doesn't bother me. The color is slightly darker than my other "natural" color furniture, and the finish on it isn't as smooth, but it's still quite solid, heavy, sturdy, and not cheap looking.
I would recommend this bookcase because of the price and size.

If I'd paid full price, I would have rated 3 July 18, 2007 Reviewer:  SAHM2K "Laura G" (Anchorage, AK, USA)  See all my reviews >

This bookcase is okay quality. I'd say it's the in-between of furniture-in-a-box and furniture-from-a-sale-floor. I got mine on sale with free shipping and a 10% coupon. [...] This bookcase is not worth it's full retail price. I had several pieces arrive chipped and it appears to be particle board, not real wood. When it's all put together, it looks nice. But if you get up close, you can see all the little chips of particle wood coming up. It wiggles when I apply gentle pressure from either side. I was expecting a glossy finish, but it's not. It's very matte. My favorite thing about it is that the back of the bookcase isn't like those cardboard panels that you staple on. It's three seperate pieces of wood that you slide into grooves. All in all, I'm satisified. But that's only because I paid a price I think is fair for the quality.

Extremely sturdy - no problems in a year January 14, 2009 Reviewer:  A.S. See all my reviews >

I bought this bookcase last year for my son's room and we have been very pleased with it for the price. I was able to assemble it myself and was completely impressed by how sturdy it is. People are right that it has a matte finish and I did find one chip where the laminate had come off, but other than that I'm thrilled with it.

Great piece! April 5, 2008 Reviewer:  Jack's Mom (New York, NY)  See all my reviews >

I gave it four stars only because it wasn't PERFECT for us.. but it is pretty close. I bought this [...], the only one in the store, after being out of stock online. Easiest piece of furniture I have EVER put together. Usually I make my husband do it because it's so confusing. But this.. ANYONE can do it! The hardware is divided into individual packs and labeled appropriately for the corresponding step in the instructions. Amazing! I kept preparing myself to find a major flaw or to be disappointed in the final product. Except for the (literally) final screw, every part fit perfectly. The final screw didn't fit- too short?, but I'll just find a longer one (or maybe do without it?)

After searching high and low, this is a perfect addition (for toy storage) in my toddler son's room. I had such a hard time finding the right color red, but these bins are EXACTLY what I was looking for!! It's great! My ONLY minor complaint is that it is a true "natural" (almost unfinished) look... very matte. No gloss AT ALL. If you like that, great. I would have preferred a finish but it works for us, and it wasn't that bad of a price, compared to other options I was looking at. It's not solid wood at all.. just heavy duty press board. The finish on the corners/edges look a little sloppy if you look too close, but from far away, and for a kids room- who cares.

The containers don't hold that many of my son's large trucks or toys, but I am hoping as he grows and his toys get smaller, it will resolve itself. If nothing else, it looks great!

Fairly good quality for the price April 10, 2009 Reviewer:  Alicia T. Flannery "ATLF" Real Name (Pennsylvania)  See all my reviews >

However, it was delivered with several niches, scraps, and signs of glue being used to fix some of the trim. It is sturdy and holds a lot of books.
