I have three small boys, two white boxers and a large parrot. I bought this vacuum only because mine again broke and I have been very happy with my bissell steam cleaner. I was completely amazed It sucked up everything, guitar picks, legos, crushed cereal, bird seed, even the white dog hair on my black area rug! The cord was long enough to clean all the stairs from one outlet. The ultimate test for me was I have had it for over 1 year never replaced a belt or needed my shop vac!

Best vacuum for CAT hair, dust and dirt

I bought this vacuum cleaner in August of 2008 and I STILL LOVE it! There seems to be a problem with manufacturing when half the reviewers give this product glowing reviews and the others hate it. Why are so many people comparing this [Price]unit to a [Price] Dyson? Thats a ridiculous complaint. And complaining about emptying the dirt cup and dusty hair filled filters because they fill up too quickly? That means its working! I have 3 cats and I love a clean house because I have allergies and from the moment I got this out of the box and assembled I have been delighted with it. First I vacuumed my 2 room sized area rugs with my old vacuum (I don't have any carpet.) Then I vacuumed with the Bissell Pet Revolution and was amazed at how lousy my old vac was. Just one 10 x 12 rug nearly filled up the dirt cup with hair and dust, it was gross! I suggest that when you empty the dirt cup or want to remove filters TAKE IT OUTSIDE and clean it. Don't whine about how much dirt and dust there is on your floor when you remove them, think about how it just got all that crap out of your filthy rugs. I haven't had anything break on it like other reviewers have. It is heavy to carry up stairs but it has a good motor. Yes, it blows hot exhaust out the back filters and that shows you how hard its working, its very powerful. I'm not concerned about the length of the hand held extentions I have plenty of old extentions lying around to add on and reach ceiling dust bunnies or the top of my drapes. With the turbo power switch on I even found it quieter than my old vacs and it doesn't scare the cats away when its in use like my old ones did.
My bottom line: GREAT product for the price. If you don't like how yours works I can't imagine that you flipped BOTH switches to 'ON'.

original review:
my husband and i did quite a bit of research when looking for a new vacuum. we couldn't afford a dyson at the time, or we would have gone that route. now, after spending what we spent on this, i'm thinking it may have been worth spending a little more than we could actually afford!
this vacuum worked very well the first few times...we have two cats, and i noticed a LOT of dirt and cat hair being picked up. i was impressed.
then, with more regular use, i learned how much extra work this vacuum requires. it doesn't pick up pieces of string or tiny little leaves that we've been tracking in this fall. you may as well pick up anything on the carpet prior to vacuuming, because if you don't, you're going to end up doing it afterwards anyway. i have to tip the vacuum on it's back about ten times while using it to clean out the hair, etc, from the brushes on the bottom. and there are too many filters to clean, one of them requiring me to use a screw-driver! are you kidding me?? like i want to have to use a screw-driver every time i vacuum my apartment, which is quite often with two cats. it drags things around more than it picks them up. what a piece of junk.
don't waste your money on this vacuum. save some extra money over a few months and invest in something that will actually do its job.
*UPDATE 6/30/08*
wow. to put it simply, i feel really stupid. i have to sheepishly take back every negative thing i said about this vacuum. back in march of this year, after having the vacuum for roughly SEVEN months, my husband and i were trying to figure out what the heck was wrong with it...and why it wasn't working. we actually took it apart trying to figure out why the brushes weren't revolving, and in the process, discovered that the BRUSH switch on the top, next to the POWER switch, controls the brushes underneath. i thought it was for the attachment brush for cleaning upholstery...but it's NOT. after having figured this out, the vacuum works like a freaking DREAM, and i LOVE it. please make sure that you read the, uh, manual before ruling this one out. it's a really good machine. :)

This vaccum is very convienient, and the brush is powerfull... but has it's drawbacks!
#1. The container where the dirt goes is way too small
#2. It has 4 or 5 different filters that you have to change often, and they are expensive.
#3. After using it for only 4 months the power stopped. I don't know if it was the motor I'm not sure..
#4. There is barely any suction power at all!!
Maybe I bought a defective one, who knows.. but had I known any of these things, I would not have wasted my money!!

I bought this vacuum several months ago and decided to try it for awhile before writing a review. We have a black lab, a wienerdog and medium length hair cat indoors all the time and wanted a vacuum that would work well on pet hair since we have a new baby at home that is often on the floor on a blanket. The first thing I would recommend is reading all the reviews you can and find out what didn't work well for others who purchased this product. Overall, this is a great vacuum with lots of suction to pick up lots of pet hair. It is easily the best vacuum we have ever purchased. However, if we owned a bigger house or had more pets or more pet hair I would not recommend this vacuum. Make sure you read the instructions and know how to remove and clean out all the filters before you use it because you will definitely need to remove and clean/wash the filters after every single use and if you have a large house or more pets, you may have to do this in the middle of vacuuming. I have found that as long I keep all the filters clean it works great. If you don't want to remove and clean filters DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! The upper motor filter gets plugged after every single use, the canister is usually full. There will be hair around the upper motor filter on the outside you will have to remove and dirt will usually be on the upper mating surface of the canister. If you don't mind cleaning your vacuum, and I must confess it's not a big deal, then this is a great vacuum that will pick up an incredibly amount of hair. We are also shocked at how much dirt this vacuum picks up as well. As long as we vacuum a couple times a week the house stays very clean. This vacuum is avery good value.

This vacum works great. It picks up, and if you have a lot of dirt, yes you will have to clean out the container, and the filters...duh, that's why you buy a bagless vacuum. Here are the warnings for this vacuum. If it starts making a clicking noise while pressing the button to lower the handle to vacuum, then try to fix it. If you just ignore it, like I did, then it will break. Now I have to bungee cord the vacuum upright to use the hose. The dial to lower the level broke after just a few months. Also, pay attention to the screws that hold the handle together, because once again, if you ignore them, the handle will break off! BUT, this vacuum really cleans and it's still cleaning just as well as the first day I bought it. And if you are in the process of cleaning and want to keep cleaning just after you clean the filters, then just take it outside and bang it on something, DON't WAsh it...it will be WET!!HA

High Maintenance and Low Quality

This vacuum lasted from Sept to March. That's it. The filters need to be cleaned every time you use it or it starts to lose suction and blowing stuff out the bottom. If you vacuum every day or have a lot of pets (we have 3 cats and a dog), this is not for you. You almost need another vacuum to keep the filters (all three of them) from this one clean! In the end this weekend, it made an insane noise and blew a ton of gunk out into my carpet. This vac is worthless unless you have like one room to vacuum and one pet.
I went and got a Kenmore canister vac. The last one of those I had lasted 15 years!

I bought this vacuum a few months ago, and I have regretted it since. The vacuum does pick up dust, but the filters put the fine dust right back in the room. I have to clean it after each use, and the attachments have to be taken apart and cleaned of hair and lint every other week, because they stop working, this also goes for the main brush. Sixty days old and I am looking for a new one. I have three cats and a small house, so I clean a few times a week, now I spend more time fixing and cleaning the vacuum then cleaning.

My husband and I want the guy's home address who put the picture of the labrador on the box. We like to use the wand of the vacuum often. With his product the wand is continously jamming with pet hair, and we vacuum at least twice a week, it's not like we wait for the hair to pile up. And when we do get the pet hair and dander to go through; it then sticks to the upper part of the filter chamber. I have to clean the vacuum every time we use it (who has time for that?). There is no way that this product should be marketed as a pet vac. I would not recommend this product to anyone!

We purchased this vaccum a little over one year ago. It does a great job picking up the fur from our two dogs and two cats. Our only issue is that it periodically has a problem with the hose getting plugged so we use our shopvac to clear the plug and it works fine everytime. Overall for the price it's still working just fine and we've been pleased with it.
