Poor Analog-to-digital Converter

The ease of out-of-the-box setup, picture quality, number of ports for other devices such as a new digital converter-box are all great features of this product. But, because of the reputation Magnavox has acquired in recent year, the poor quality of their HDTV TV sets continues to be their standard.
My new Philips Magnavox 26" LCD HDTV was purchased in February 2008 from a high-volume, non-electronics, discount store in the Los Angeles area of Southern California. It functioned way beyond my expectations, which I must say I was skeptical about the quality of an all-in-one, analog-to-digital-converter, monitor-TV.
I say it "functioned" until May 2009; 15 months and 2 weeks shy of the U.S. go-live, June 12 all-digital date.
The very reason I purchased this product -- for the analog-to-digital conversion -- is the very thing that stopped functioning! How do I really feel? What do you think?
I'm a student in a recessionary economy that can't afford to buy, daily, monthly, yearly, new LCD HDTV equipment!
Thank God there's a port to use with a cheap digital converter-box, because the cost to fix my new, now broken Philips Magnavox 26" LCD HDTV, only 15 months old, is more expensive than the original ticket price!

Buy the extended warranty, you’ll need it

If you buy a Magnavox buy the extended warranty, you’ll need it in about 20 months.
We started having problems in the first few weeks. The picture would cut off, randomly, for 20 seconds to 2 minutes. I called Magnavox a few times, I was told to run updates which did not help (I just learned to deal with it). After about 14 months the delayed start, after pressing power, became longer (2-4 minuets). As always I downloaded updates, no help. By 19 months I had to press the power button and hold for several seconds then the power indicator light would come on and eventually the TV would come on. At 21 months the TV stopped working, would not come on at all. I called Magnavox and was told to take it to a repair shop.
Twenty-one months too late I went online to research problems with the model/brand and most of the comments stated "Magnavox TVs typically only last 20-24 months". I wish I had researched up before I spent $.. on the Magnavox 37MF231D/37. Research 1st.
