Target has always been known for providing high quality at low prices and this dining set is no exception. The set is composed of about 99% solid wood construction. (There is only one small square of 3/4" particle board that connects the pedestal to the table top.) The seat boxes are connected to the seat backs with 7 bolts! (I think 4 would have been enough, but this is certainly a pro and not a con.) The set arrived in perfect condition. It was packaged well in one of the heaviest double-walled cardboard boxes I've ever seen with additional cardboard and Styrofoam packaging inside. Assembly was easy with only a couple of light persuasion taps with a hammer needed to get the pedestal bolts aligned with the holes in the base and table top mount. The factory finish seems fairly durable. You could apply a couple coats of polyurethane and make it even more durable. This dining set is an excellent value.

I got my table (arrived early and UPS made me sign for it so someone had to be home, which was a pain) and it was very well packaged. Easy to put together and very sturdy, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Excellent quality and the set looks great in my small kitchen.

I bought this to use in my kitchen. Since it is also right next to my dining room I just needed something small. It looks really cute and the price/free shipping was great.
When you are putting it together, here's a tip, take off the plastic caps on the screws sticking out of the column. It's much easier to put together that way(lol), and it's not mentioned in the instructions. Probably a no brainer, but we didn't figure it out right away and wondered why it wasn't fitting together. Also the first page of the instructions shows how the whole table fits together, then the book goes step by step. My husband and I put it together from the first page, then had to go back and take it apart to really put it together with the hardware (lol again-we wondered how sturdy it could be with using no screws).

So excited when my table and chairs arrived only to be so incredibly disappointed when I opened the box and discovered my shredded table top! As others have stated before me, it was damaged...not a little bit but alot. There was no fixing this one. And I even assisted our UPS man by guided him up the sidewalk and to the back door, no steps, no second floor, just a straight shot from truck to the door. I would NOT suggest buying this set, as even the online Target rep agreed that they've had great difficulty with damaged items. Skip it folks! Looks great online but don't bother. By the way, you can return it at the store, BUT GOOD LUCK LIFTING THIS ONE INTO YOU CAR! You'll need two people and a dolly!! This is just too much trouble!!!!!!!

I finally found the perfect table, and when I opened the damaged open box (this is the way that it was shipped to me), the hardware was missing. How am I supposed to put this together with no screws?!

My set arrived in perfect condition and sooner than the website anticipated. It was so easy to asssemble! It took me about 45 minutes to do it all. Plus, I had a 15 month old crawling all over me and the furniture! You need no tools to assemble it, everything needed is included. It's a very nice looking set and seems sturdy. It is very heavy and is all real wood. There is only one piece of the table that is particle board; the small square that helps connect the pedestal to the tabletop. The chairs are pretty comfortable and sturdy as well. I am extremely pleased. This is a great table and chairs for the price. Thanks Target!

The American Simplicity chairs (that are recommended on the website) do not match the chairs that come with the Alta 3 pc dining set. Further it does not appear you can order additional chairs to match the Alta dining set chairs. Also the Marquetee x-Back chair does not match either. So if you want 4 chairs with the Alta dining table you must order to sets of the dining room set, but then you will have 2 tables.
Also our Alta table came damaged in shipping and to return it you have to return the entire box including the chairs, they don't just ship a new table .

Got the table today and when opening it was void of any scratches or other flaws, but did not come with the hardware and instructions!! Target is the worst when it comes to shipping!

We are very pleased with this purchase. It is the perfect size for a kitchen nook / breakfast table. Very happy with the construction. Easy to put together. Table top and legs solid wood, looks more expensive than it is.
