Tested with hygrometer in small room. Doesn't work. December 9, 2006 Reviewer:  J. B. Brown Real Name (KY)  See all my reviews >

I am surprised that this is the highest rated humidifier at Target. Did the reviewers use a hygrometer to test the effectiveness of this humidifier? I did. My house is bone dry during the winter. When the heater is running the relative humidity (RH) in my daughter's small nursery can get under 5%. I have an accurate hygrometer in the room to monitor the RH. After a month of testing this unit (Panda) I have determined that it is only affecting the humidity by about 3-4%. You can see the mist coming out, which gives the appearance that it is working. However, it simply isn’t evaporating or circulating the mist enough to be effective. (Perhaps if a small fan was aimed at the top of this unit it would be more effective.) This morning the RH in my daughter’s nursery was 4% after running this humidifier continuously for several days. I went out and purchased a $30 unit made by Holmes designed for small rooms. No, it isn’t silent. No, it isn’t cute. Yes, it works. The RH began to rise within 10 minutes. Buy a 15 dollar hygrometer and test a few units for yourself. Also, this unit has no filter. So, if you are going to use it, it is especially important to use distilled water. [...]

Love, Love, Love it! November 21, 2006 Reviewer:  LilDeb (Montana)  See all my reviews >

The Crane has been a wise investment.
All others have been wasted money and ended up as trash.
Our air is extremely dry up north in the winter.
Each one of my girls has one in their room.
I bought the frog in the store, the elephant and panda online.
I had shipping problems, but they quickly fixed it and they express shipped them.
Great simple design:
1. Easy to use!
Out of the box, into the sink, fill it up, turn it on and poof...there is humidity in the air!
2. Quiet
3. Adjustable knob for mist output
4. Cool to the touch mist
5. Runs a long time without having to refill
(on med/high for about 7/8 hours before refilling, all day on the lowers settings)
6. Sonic, if it runs out of water on accident it doesn’t break or burn up.
7. See through container to view water level
8. They fit in a small bath sink.
9. Cute
10. No cords to fight when refilling
11. No leaks
12. Not clogged with mineral deposits or floating minerals, (we have very hard water)
13. Stable on the top of dresser and night stand

The only drawback I have found is when refilling them the condensation can spill if you are not careful. The condensation builds at the top of the head cover and when removing it drops can spill. When removing the water container, the hole that the vapor rises through and the top reservoir have condensation on it in large amounts. Tilt it and let the water drip back into the base reservoir before walking away. I use a small kitchen towel to set the top face on and hold under it when taking it from room to sink.
No more bloody noses or itchy skin.
I am so pleased with them that I am going to purchase one of the fruit shaped ones for the living room and for friends having babies.

Panda pooped out after 1 1/2 months March 19, 2008 Reviewer:  Momma of 2 boys "Sheri M." (Denver, CO United States)  See all my reviews >

Extremely cute but the "panda" pooped out after only a month and a half. Motor makes screeching sounds on start up and caused concerns for burning up the motor and starting a fire. Very dissapointed!! We also have the frog humidifier as well and we are on our second one of those for similar reasons. Don't plan on wasting anymore money on these.

good to a point December 8, 2007 Reviewer:  FirstTimeMommy (spotsylvania,Va)  See all my reviews >

Works well in small rooms but in a larger room you have to turn the mist settings up and then it just goes through water too quickly

worked well...to a point October 2, 2007 Reviewer:  Wash, DC See all my reviews >

This humidifier is cute to look at, and it does work well enough to humidify our baby's small room. But it only works for a short time immediately after it has been cleaned and refilled. After a few hours, you stop being able to see the mist, and there is so much condensation build up that you see the start of mold growing (and it's hard to clean behind the ears!). Anyway, you really have to stay on top of cleaning for it to work well...which is obvious, yes, but hard when you're generally exhausted from parenting!

Cute, but not practical. December 31, 2008 Reviewer:  momof2littleones (Albuquerque, NM, USA)  See all my reviews >

I think we're all looking at this Panda because we need a humidifier and want it to look good in our rooms. But seriously if you need one, just get one that actually works, even if it's an eyesore. You WILL need to clean this everytime you use it. Otherwise it gets all slimey and gross. And I got a device that measures the humidity in the room and the levels were not where they should be. So I question if it really even works. After just a few weeks, I broke down and bought a better one. This was just a waste of money. Oh, and I bought the frog one as well, same issues.

Cute but effective? March 8, 2008 Reviewer:  Savvy Shopper See all my reviews >

Although it's cute, I'm not sure how well it's working. I don't notice a huge increase in humidity in the small room I use it in. It concerns me that it doesn't have a filter and I also worry about keeping it clean. I can't say that I would recommend this humidifier.

Adorable, but not functional March 6, 2008 Reviewer:  Mom to Be (Atlanta, GA United States)  See all my reviews >

This humidifier is really cute, but not effective enough. The mist pours out of the ears and falls straight to the floor. I didn't have anything really tall to place it on to see if it would be more effective. It is a petri dish for mold so it has to be bleached often to keep my baby from breathing it in. She has been congested since day one and this hasn't helped alleviate the problem.
We're buying a 'regular' humidifier to replace it and selling this one at our next garage sale. A pity because it looks so cute in the nursery.
