I learned to sew many years ago but never really enjoyed sewing until I recently started making accessories for my home. I was using a very old Singer, which originally belonged to my mother. It had been a very reliable machine and my mother had certainly gotten her money's worth out of it. One day the motor started smoking and I knew it's days were over. Not knowing anyone who had recently purchased a new machine, I started looking on line and reading customer reviews. That is how I decided on the 7444. I have been using my new machine about three weeks and I couldn't be happier. It is so easy to operate and sews beautifully. It is priced so reasonably, I don't know why I even hesitated about getting a new machine.

I had to replace another Singer that was 20 years old and never worked right ever. I really did not want another Singer, but the local Target did not have the accessories for the other brands. Taking the advise in another review, I could return it if it was a lemon. Right out of the box it was set up with the needle. The Auto Tension feature was what sold me. I never understood what setting went with what material. The stitching selection is very easy. The only thing that I could not do is the auto threading of the needle. I will tackle that some other time. I love this machine and am sorry I waited until now to replace my junker. I only had sewing in high school, so I am a basic kind of sewer. This is the kind of machine you want if you frustrate easy. The directions are easy and the thread numbering on the machine make it fool proof. I did not want complicated, but wanted quality stitches. Yea for Singer for making me happy again!

This Singer sewing machine is great. My old Kenmore had seen better days; it was time to buy a new sewing machine. I searched online and read costumer reviews and decided
to buy the Singer 7444. I have been using this machine for about a month now and I am very happy with it. Very easy to use and the manual is easy to understand.
Sometimes it is the costumer reviews that sale a product. I would buy this sewing machine again.

I saw the 7442 (lower model) online at JoAnn Fabrics, and it cost the same as this 7444 model. Plus, I got a Target REDcard and got 10% off! Target ROCKS! I have only had it a couple of days and I love the ease of it, I love the automatic bobbin tension feature, the selection of stitches is awesome, I love the automatic 4-stitch that ties up the end for you. Having a "default" width and length for the 49 stitches indicated with a yellow light and audible beep is so helpful. My girlfriend wished she had that on her machine. This is well worth the money, very heavy, sturdy machine and has a plastic cover included to keep it dust free. If you can afford it, you have to get it.

Like a lot of reviewers, I wanted a good machine at a reasonable price. I sew mostly to mend and hem, so paying for a Bernina was out. This Singer 7444 is inspiring me to actually make things. It is so easy to use. I've been used to my mother's old Singer from the 1940's, which still runs beautifully. Those are really solid machines. But I can do things so much easier with my new machine, and it is well constructed.

I've had this machine for less than a year and the step motor just stopped working. I dont exactly even know what that is, but the repair shop that I took it to cannot even get the part so that it can be repaired! What a disaster. Sure there's a warranty, but it covers parts not labor and I haven't been able to get anyone on the phone to even discuss getting the parts.

I purchased this machine on sale a little over a month ago. It's a great machine for the price. The only problem I've had with it is that sometimes when you wind a bobbin it ends up real loose and wild. Its not by any means a "super machine" but it definately does the job.

I got this machine as a gift for mom and she loves it. She has a singer that is about 15 yrs old, but I am sure she will be giving it away soon. She says it runs so smooth and all the stitching is perfect, it's her new toy.
