I've had this lamp + the matching floor lamp for 3 years now, and with the exception of my husband accidentally knocking over the floor lamp and breaking the shade [it separated from the metal and the screw base chipped, but I'm cheap and don't feel like replacing it... we rigged it just fine :)] they have both been superb in terms of looks and function. Now, some of these reviews crack me up just as much as the reviewer below me was tickled I'm sure. Please allow a very satisfied customer to put to rest any fears you may have about this product based on some of the sillier reviews...

First, one person thought the shade looked square. Umm, it's been a while since High School geometry, but squares are made of four 90 degree angles. There's no way on Earth the shade in the photo could be square as it is clearly tapered at the top, which is a defining characteristic of most cone-like shades.

Second, someone stated the shade is burnt orange and not the "burgundy" pictured. As an admirer of fine red wines, I can safely tell you that the color in the photo isn't even close to the color of burgundy wine or any other for that matter. Granted, computer monitors can distort colors, but I assure you the shade is a lovely shade of amber (as stated in the description) that is most associated with mica and the tortoise shell look that so many people enjoy.

Lastly, yes, the shade is mica covered plastic (as clearly stated in the description) and there are metal "bars" that run from the top to the bottom of the shade... this is to help hold the shade in place since Mica is rather fragile (as discovered by one poor gal who's lamps did not survive overly rough shipping...[...]). If anything, though, I believe this only adds to the originality of the lamp and separates it from the other zillion amber shaded lamps out there. That's a plus for me any way. :)

I do agree that the bulb does show a bit more than some would like, but I resolved this by using the compact fluorescent bulbs or a lower wattage incandescent bulb. They are not designed for primary light sources (hence the "glow" talked about in the description), but they will be lovely mood lighting if you're into that sort of thing. Give them a try. Barring any shipping catastrophes, you won't be disappointed! :)

I'll keep it simple since others have the same feeling as I do- this lamp is AWESOME for the $$ and is perfectly described. Great addition to warm up a family room without adding bright light! LOVE IT!

This is not a good accent light, it does not even light up the table that it sits on. If you like the look of brown light, then this is the lamp for you. If you like a nice glowing accent light, this lamp STINKS.

I find most reviews below quite humorous. Those that are unhappy with this product say they had no idea from the description that it has a plastic shade. I guess I am reading a diffrent description because under this lamps description it clearly states, "It has a Mica-covered plastic shade that illuminates in a warm, amber glow."

Love this table lamp. I got it about 2 yrs. ago and my son broke it while moving the furniture to vacum. So ordered another one today. The lamp LOOKS alot like the picture but the shade is an AMBER color which gives a nice Warm Glow to your room. I LOVE IT!!

I received this as a shower gift, and couldn't be happier with it. The shade is made of some sort of plastic, as other reviewers have mentioned, but I don't think it takes away from the lamp one bit. We're registered for the matching floor lamp, and can't wait to have a matching set. Would highly recommend.

it looks just like in the picture when u get it in person however it gives no indication as to what material the shade actually is it is a hard plastic which i didn't expect but the lamp is cute it's okay it's den furniture this entire collection nothing you would put in a living room

This lamp looks very neat online, but once I received it in the mail I was very disappointed. I bought 2 of them and the shades won't screw on straight. The shade looks and feels like cheap plastic. I do not recommend this product.
