My cat would not drink enough water and was constantly dumping over his water bowl playing in it, so we got this fountain. He absolutely loves the fresh, cool water. He drinks a ton and even though he sometimes still tries to play with it, he can't knock this one over, so it's a LOT less messy. It can be tricky to get it set up, but the trick is to just fill it as full as it goes with water, then the fountain will start working. It's good to clean it every month or so, take it apart and really clean it well, as you can get some build up around the whole thing. Any time you do that or it runs low on water and you have problems with the fountain working, just fill up the reservoirs, both the clear one and the main one, and make sure there's enough water, THEN turn it on, and you shouldn't have a problem. You don't have to have the carbon cartridges in it if you don't want to buy them, it works the same without them. You can also extend the life of the cartridges by giving them a good rinse every couple of weeks to remove any build up and keep the water flowing well. Overall, although this fountain can be a bit finicky at times, my cat loves it and I'm sure it's saved us trips to the vet for urinary tract problems since it keeps him drinking well. Oh, and extra bonus-- his pee isn't so concentrated so it doesn't smell nearly as much. :) Enjoy!

My parents have used the same one for at least 6 years and I just bought one for my cat. You have to keep it clean and clear away any food or fur that could clog the pump. Complaints about this product are usually about the pump clogging and having to clean it but if you take care of it your cat will love it and have better health for it.

Have had this fountain for 4 years now--purchased it for a cat with bladder stones. Has worked well and is quite easy to maintain. Cats drink much more water with this fountain--a fill lasts 3-4 days with 2 cats. Thought the pump had finally died--went to [the company's website] and cleaned the pump per instructions--started working again! Great item.

My cats absolutely love this water dish. When I pick it up and empty it to clean it they are weaving in my legs and then when I set it back down to refill it, they sit next to it and look at me as if to say hurry up.

I purchased this for my first cat... I now have 3 and they LOVE it. They like it better than from a bowl. I'm getting a second one. You must clean this unit every month and replace the filters then also. While this is a bit of a pain it is worth it and is not a big deal

My cats (I have 3!) loved the faucet. One cat used to wake me up every morning between 2am and 4am by getting in my face and meowing so I could get up and turn on the bathroom faucet. If I was on the toilet he would sit on the sink and meow until I turned on the faucet. My cat was bossing me around the house! This pet fountain provided a perfect solution. It took awhile for the cat to get used to it but I refused to turn on the faucet. Every now and then he will call me to the faucet but it is usually because I need to clean out the bowl. Cats like really clean water bowls, but wouldn't we? I highly recommend this!

Sure, my cats were frightened at first, but now they've grown accustomed to drinking from their fountain. I'm happier knowing the water is flowing and not sitting still in a bowl, also that it's being filtered. I notice my cats drinking more now, perhaps because they think its their own private faucet?

have 1 cat and Had this for a year. Cleaned out the bowl and pump intake screen about once every 2 months. Pump stopped and I was looking on here to buy a new pump for it. Read the review to clean out the inside of the pump. went to petmate.com and they clearly give you instructions on how to clean it I also used a q-tip to make sure the pump was the cleanest inside that it could be and It works again! My cat loves this thing and now I really do too. The filters aren't that expensive and are sold at most pet stores. A must buy for picky cats and cats that make the water bowl dirty just looking at it.

I have had my fountian for six-months, and am having to go to the pet store today to finally replace it.
It sprung a leak from the bottom last night, and I woke up to a small stream in my kitchen... :(
Me and my kitty both LOVE this fountian, as he is a high maintenence kitty and wont drink still water fom a normal bowl. The deluxe is the one I have (a little more pricier) but well worth it and I will be purchasing again!!
** I have read other revies where people complained that it leaked a little, but I think my case is a little different because I have a very emotional, and ROUGH cat. Whenever we leave him home alone, he throws tnatrums and on a number of occasions I have come home to find this whole unit upside down.
