Nice Choice for Smaller Families November 2, 2008 Reviewer:  team W "teamw23" (Silver Spring, MD United States)  See all my reviews >

Although I am no master chef, it looks to me like you can safely ignore the small number of bad reviews on this rice cooker. It does require that you actually READ THE MANUAL AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. It comes with a little cup which you have to use to measure out the rice (they tell you in the directions specifically not to use a regular measuring cup). The directions also tell you that you are then supposed to wash out your rice in a bowl until the water in the bowl is clear. (This step takes all of 90 seconds).

So you wash your rice 2 or 3 times, then dump the wet, rinsed rice into the no-stick cooking bowl, and fill up the bowl to the markings clearly marked on the side of the bowl that correspond with the number of cups you are making (1-3 before cooking, 2-6 cups after).

If you do that correctly, you are all set. Just put on the lid, push the button down and let it cook. The rice comes out consistently perfect, just the right amount of sticky, not too much, not too little.

The cooking bowl is removable and easy to wash, and it includes a steamer basket and a little spatula which is just the right size for serving the rice.

This is a perfect choice for a couple or small family, or frankly anybody in a small apartment or kitchen where space is at a premium. It is about half the size of the other cookers I looked at. It even has a little basket for steaming veggies. I am looking forward to more frequent and better tasting stir-fry dinners thanks to this thing!

From my experience, I'd say this is a darn good deal for the price. It's very simple and it works great. My guess is the people who've had bad results with this didn't bother to read the manual, used a regular measuring cup or didn't wash their rice before trying to cook it. I'd say go ahead and get one.

Looks great, but... June 18, 2006 Reviewer:  JA in Pgh (Pittsburgh, PA United States)  See all my reviews >

I was thrilled to find this cute little rice cooker. I needed something more compact for my small kitchen. Today I fired it up for the first time and found that it spat starch and water through the vent all over the front of my cupboard and the cabinet. My lunky old cooker never did anything like that. So I will sadly pull my old cooker out of the garage sale pile and return this one to TARGET.

It's cute! It's small! It's red! It works! September 5, 2008 Reviewer:  CrossCulture (Northern California)  See all my reviews >

I read the reviews. I nearly didn't buy it. I didn't want a mess. But in the store, it was the only one that wasn't either huge or complex. So, I bought it, despite the warnings.

THERE WAS NO MESS. Honestly - the steam hole steams, but didn't make a mess.

The rice was great.

I'll hope it keeps working. My last rice cooker lasted 10 years before the teflon disintegrated. I am hopeful, though my growing family might eat more than this in a sitting before then!

Big Disappointment! November 1, 2006 Reviewer:  C. MAC (Atlanta, GA United States)  See all my reviews >

I purchased this and followed the enclosed instructions exactly to make brown rice. Instead of steaming, the water in the rice boiled, and hot water splattered all over my counter. The instructions say the cooker will switch to warm automatically when the rice is done, but it kept cooking and began to burn. The only saving grace is that the rice pot really is non-stick, so I was able to clean the burned rice from the bottom of the pot pretty easily. I had a Black and Decker steamer previously - it worked much, much better. I was trying to get a smaller appliance, but I ended up with something awful.

Perfect and Cute! January 9, 2009 Reviewer:  Curly Happy (Twin Falls, Idaho)  See all my reviews >

Awesome little cooker. Only downfall, the instructions are kinda lame. They refer to the measuring cup (included) as a "3/4" cup...However, if you fill the rice to the the top, it's really a 1 cup measuring. The instructions could be revised a little bit and more detailed.
Anyways, I've only used the cooker once so far and my rice came out better than ever; Just like the top quality you get from a restuarant (which is amazing because my rice is the Hy-Top Winco brand)...very cheap!
I will recommend to anyone!!!

Cute, works as it should September 29, 2008 Reviewer:  Mr. Lam P. Huynh "[LH]" Real Name (Germantown, MD United States)  See all my reviews >

I'm enjoying the first rice meal from this cooker while writing this review. It's small, it's red and it's cute. Just fits my little kitchen in my apartment. If you know how to cook rice, this will work for you. If you never have a rice cooker or never cook rice before, read instruction carefully. It said 6-cup doesn't mean 6 cups of rice. It means the maximum capacity is 3 cups of rice and 3 cups of water. So for those with a family more than 1 or 2, you might need to consider a larger cooker, but for a single or couple who do not eat rice much as main dish, this is perfect.

Wonderful!! February 20, 2009 Reviewer:  E. Dawkins Real Name (FL USA)  See all my reviews >

I can't believe so many people are having problems with this rice cooker. I've never once had any of the issues that these other people are complaining of. Maybe they aren't following the directions properly? You have to use the little cup provided to get the proper measurements.

Well, I love this thing and use it about 3 nights a week if not more. My husband and I eat quite a bit of rice, probably because this little guy makes it so darn well.

You can't put the pot in the dishwasher, but all the other pieces you can. The rice paddle (server), the cup and the steam basket (which also works like a charm!) I spray the pot down with pam before making any rice since the stuff is so sticky once cooked.

The directions are so simple too: With white rice, I put in 3 cupsful (using the cup provided) and then fill the pot with water up to the 3 line. It's not 3 cupsful of water, it's to the 3 line marked on the inside of the pot. If you make 2 cupsful of rice, then you fill with water to the 2 line. Push the button and in about 20 minutes you have wonderful and tasty rice! Perfect every time!!

Most amazing thing ever!!!!!! September 9, 2008 Reviewer:  A. Nelson Real Name See all my reviews >

I use this rice cooker all the time! The rice always tastes wonderful. It is so easy to use when you don't have a lot of time. You just add equal rice to equal water, cook and when it is done you set the timer for 10 minutes and your rice is done! I would recommend this for anyone who loves rice! It also makes good steamed vegetables!

Works Fine - Spits A Lot April 16, 2007 Reviewer:  TechChix.net See all my reviews >

I cannot complain about how this rice cooker makes rice... cuz it works fine IF I only do 1 cup dry rice at a time. It says it can accomodate up to 3 cups of dry rice - hence 6 cups of water. BUT when I do that it spits water thru the lid hole and out the sides - so much that I put it on a cookie sheet and just have to clean the whole counter afterwards. We will keep it for now until we find a better one. Just be aware of that spitting problem...

Not pleased July 1, 2006 Reviewer:  Michelle L. Petty "Michelle" Real Name (USA)  See all my reviews >

This machine makes a huge mess and the auto cooker that is suppose to switch to keep the rice warm is useless. I recommend anyone that wants a rice cooker to buy one that has a seal lid top to avoid the mess that this thing creates.
