The lamp has a nice finish. The shades are somewhat cheap plastic but that is expected. Overall the lamp looks high quality. The maximum wattage bulb per lamp is 40 watts. I would urge you to purchase the compact fluorescents bulbs which save energy, and generate very little heat. I would imagine you could put the 13W CFL which is equivalent to the light output of a 60 Watt light bulb. I ended up buying the 10W (equivalent to 40W light output) CFLs, but I may get the 13W instead because I need more light.

This photo needs to be color corrected. The lamp is black (not amber) with a metallic pewter-like finish. The photo is also wrong on the box.

Worked well for the first few months. However, the pole does not screw into the base as a solid piece. There is a screw that is basically welded to the bottom section of the pole. The base is heavy and if the light is tipped or moved by the pole, it can snap off of the base.

I was really happy with this purchase until it stopped working. I love the way it looks and I love the flexible lights. The knob that controls whether you have 2, 3, all, or none of the lights on stopped working properly. It doesn't turn off. All lights are on all the time which is concerning. It has to be unplugged/plugged back in, which is very inconvenient and difficult when you enter a dark room and need to turn on the light.

i got a lamp [...] from target almost exactly like this, only black metal, and it is wonderful. i used it in my room at home, my dorm, and will use it in my new apartment. my sister also has the same thing i do and loves it. it lets you adjsut the lighting of any space very easily, and can be taken apart easily to be packed away and moved. i'll keep this thing until it dies, which probably won't be for a very very very long time, seeing how well mine and my sister's have survived the abuse they've taken so far.

this lamp is perfect for anyone with a very contemperary bedroom. "Black and Bold" as i call it.
