Just buy regular thermometer March 4, 2009 Reviewer:  New Mom (Twin Cities, MN)  See all my reviews >

I haven't gotten an accurate read on the ear thermometer ONCE!! I tested it on myself to see if I was doing something wrong and it said I had a fever EVERY time. My actual temp. was 98.4. The Regular thermometer works accurately and that's what we use now. So my recommendation, skip the ear thermometer.

Not worth it February 27, 2009 Reviewer:  Happy Mom See all my reviews >

To start off *positive*: The ear thermometer seems to work well. I have been able to receive accurate readings and it works VERY quickly.

The rectal/oral (however you choose to use it) is HORRIBLE! It says "rapid" read and that is the biggest lie. It is important when you have a small baby to be able to get a quick and accurate temperature. However, it takes FOREVER for the temperatue to appear. Thank goodness I have a very easy baby who will just lay there while I'm taking her temp., but I feel for the parents who have had to take the temperature of a "sqirmy" child. There is no way you can make a baby sit/lay down for over a minute... closer to two... in order to take their temperature. Definitely would NOT recommend this product.

Rectal therm. does job the ear does not September 8, 2009 Reviewer:  Jen (Marshfield, WI)  See all my reviews >

I bought these separately for my infant son and wished I would have read the reviews on the ear thermometer first. I liked the rectal thermometer and I would tell others that its great. The ear thermometer is a different story. I couldn't wait for my son to reach over the 6 month mark where they recommend you use the ear therm. but I tried several times to get this thing to work and he's now 18 months and it still doesn't deliver. Every time I use it the thing reads something way different. I follow the directions they give with the pulling the ear so it will fit in the canal like their pictures show and it will read 20 degree different each time. Not worth the money in my opinion. Now I have to buy another type of thermometer because try and take a 18 month old boy who barely lies still enough to change a diaper let alone a temp. rectally.

Works well May 2, 2009 Reviewer:  melcrash "melcrash" (west virginia)  See all my reviews >

Our pediatrician recommended taking a rectal temperature until our child was at least 2 years old. It was stated that it is the most accurate for temperatures. We received this as a gift. We had to use it recently and it was very simple to use.

I bought the rectal thermometer. The battery went dead! It kept turning on and off! Not happy with this.

I purchased this thermometer kit for a first time mom. She loves it. Wish I had something like this when I had my own babies many years ago!

Not worth the money July 30, 2009 Reviewer:  Wisconsin mom See all my reviews >

I was excited at the prospect of a quick read with the ear thermometer, but I have not once been able to rely on it. If I take my baby's temp 3 times in a row, it is never even close to what it gave me the time before. There is usually a 2 degree "window" that the temp could be in. Not helpful when needing an accurate reading for a newborn! I tried it on myself and found out I had a fever, according to this product anyway (I did not have a fever!). Skip the ear thermometer, what a waste.
