the toaster oven worked well for about a year, but has just started smelling like something electrical is burning. the timer won't stop ticking, and the bell/alarm signal for the end of the toast cycle does not work. i'm hoping to return it and purchase a different model.

I am not happy with this new appliance. I can't find the right setting for toast. It makes the bread too hard!

Overfunctionality

I bought this toaster oven a few months ago. It works well enough, but some of the extra functions overwhelm its usefulness as a basic toaster. The toast knob is also a timer knob that runs up to 30 minutes. To adjust how dark the toast, there is only a small portion of the knob travel, so it's difficult to know exactly where to set it. Also, if you toast a second batch, it toasts much darker since the oven is warmer already.
I'd much prefer a toaster oven with a knob to set how dark the toast will be, and a separate knob/button to start toasting, so you don't have to reset the darkness button each time.

After six mths this toaster oven stopped working and smelt like the electrical parts were burned out. It has a year warranty, so hopefully it will be replaced.

I wish I could give this item zero stars. I got this item in May 2007 ago as a wedding gift. In March of 2009 the unit caught on fire. Believing it was user error I went out and purchased the more recent model. Exactly 6 month to the day, my husband was toasting waffles and the timer did not shut off causing the toast to burn and then the entire unit caught on fire AGAIN!!!! Fortunately we were able to put out the fire without damage more than the unit. I have called Black and Decker to report it this time and told them not to bother sending a replacement unit, the third incident may cause my house to burn down!

Burned up

This toaster oven was a big purchase mistake. Only had it about forty five days. The timer would stick and burn the toast this happened serveral times even after making sure I followed the directions by turning it pass 10 and back to the light toast selection. Today 10-5-09 it burned the toast and the oven went up in flames. Lucky that I put the fire out before too much actual damage - only the odor of burnt toast and smoke. Needless to say I just tossed it into the trash. Please be very careful and make a good judgement call if thinking about buying this. Looked nice, was inexpensive, but could have been extremely costly.

This started out being a great toaster oven once we got the hang of it. Now 9 months later the timer doesn't ding and it won't stop ticking---just like the previous reviewer stated. We are looking into getting it replaced.
