Infant insert explained

I did a lot of research on cloth diapers prior to my one month old being born. As it was a big investment of time and money (people thought I was crazy!), I was looking to understand the benefits as well as differences between the types of diapers out there. I discovered bum genius to have the highest reviews but wanted to pass along one thing I couldn't find an answer to. Why is there an infant insert and a one-size insert? Since using them I have discovered the difference: The infant insert is shorter for the smaller snap on the diaper. Therefore there is not the bulk in the back (or front) that an infant has b/c of the smaller size snap chosen. The one-size insert expands to the largest size of the diaper but creates bulk if an infant is wearing it. And you put both in for the nighttime for extra absorption. Maybe I was the only confused one! We love these diapers and are happy there is such a great product on the market. However if you are looking for a less expensive alternative to a great cloth diaper, babie boomer has created a very similar product for less. It does not come with the infant insert, but does have an extra snap for when the child is older; A trade-off for the price. But the bum genius inserts fit them as well. We bought both and have an equal number for the different advantages. We are very happy with our purchases.

This is the first and only cloth diaper I've used. I have about 24 diapers, which at a year old, gets my daughter through about 3 days.
They didn't fit her until she was about 2 months old, though. She was a small baby, only the 5th percentile for height AND weight. So I think if she had been "normal" we would have been able to use them sooner.
They are very easy to use, and I don't experience leaks.

I love these diapers! I did not like the thought of throwing away so many disposable diapers, so decided to use cloth diapers. Everyone I knew made faces when I told them my decision, but these are not our mothers' cloth diapers! these bumGenius diapers seem to have received the best review, so I bought them. They have lived up to their reputation. My daughter has not yet had a "blow out" and I attribute it to the diapers (they're not the little flimsy disposables). Though pricey, the 18 I bought (more than enough to get us through the day considering each comes with two liners) will pay for themselves in 3 months. Another perk is that there seems to be far less diaper rash with the cloth diapers. Oxyclean (or the equivalent) works well to get stains out. There are a couple of small minuses to these: the baby needs to weight at least 8 pounds (and even then they made her look like a little sumo wrestler) before they fit (so not for little newborns) and they are a little difficult to launder if traveling for more than one day and they are a bit bulkier to pack (but again, we haven't had blow outs that mean changing a whole outfit). I really can't say enough good things..

We bought these diapers 7 months ago and have been very pleased. They are very absorbent and they hold in the biggest messes! The diapers have held up well even with frequent washes. I haven't noticed any "wear and tear" on them yet.
I will say that they are not practical for a tiny newborn, but would have fit my baby around 1-2 months of age.
For people new to cloth diapering, these are wonderful. My husband will even use them! For big messes, I would recommend using a diaper sprayer. Bum Genius actually makes a great sprayer, but I don't think Target carries it yet.
Even if you buy these and end up not liking them, the re-sale value is pretty good.

We've only ever used cloth diapers on my one year old, and these are SO easy to use!!! They are easy to clean, easy to stuff, and are great for babysitters and grandparents. We've been using ours for about a year, and they will definitely last through potty training next year. Best diapering purchase we've ever made!

I agree with the previous review about these not necessarily fitting all newborns. My daughter wasn't able to wear these until she was five weeks old, but she was five pounds at birth so even the newborn size disposables in the hospital were sliding off of her. These are a nice all in one. I like to keep these on hand for outings (less to put in the diaper bag) and for when everything else is in the wash. They are trimmer than using prefolds with a cover. The inside is very soft and we've yet to have a problem with it coming clean. We just don't use these everyday because the prefolds have been more convenient...newborns can go through some diapers..

I have tried many different brands of cloth diapers, and I always come back to our tried-and-true Bumgenius! They never leak and fit great. They are also the only cloth diaper that my husband and the church nursery workers aren't afraid of.

we have been using these for 4 months so far. they are definitely bulkier than disposables. however, i think that the bulkiness is worth it in knowing that they are safer for my babies bum and safer for the environment. we have 10 diapers (2 of which are not bumgenius). when a diaper is dirty, we throw it in a pail with a lid that is filled with water. when we run out of diapers, we empty the pail of water and just throw the diapers in the wash. if there are BM's in the diapers, we dump them in the toilet before soaking in the pail. the only downside i could potentially see in this brand is that the velcro may wear out over time. this is why 2 of her diapers are non-velcro. we wanted to try out snap diapers as well. cloth diapers are more expensive initially, but you really do save hundreds of dollars in the long run. great investment.

THESE ARE THE NEW STYLE DIAPERS 3.0

We received these diapers a few weeks ago and I just love them. I normally use FuzziBunz and/or Blueberry/Swaddlebees, but these BumGenius 3.0 work GREAT at night on my almost 12-month-old, 21 lb daughter. We use one insert during the day and both inserts at night and have never had a leak when she sleeps 12+ hours. And just to clear things up, these ARE the new style adjustable one-size BumGenius 3.0 pocket diapers that come with one adjustable (snap) insert and one newborn insert. It is well worth the purchase, and please do consider this diaper if you are switching to cloth, or considering it for your newborn. You will need between 15-20 diapers to start full-time, but they last YEARS if you care for them properly. I also highly recommend All Small & Mighty Free & Clear for laundry (or Allen's Naturally, Purex Free & Clear, Planet, or Arm & Hammer Sensitive Skin) - just be sure it is free of dyes, perfumes/scents, and enzymes as these will destroy your diapers or possibly give baby a rash (only use 1/4 to 1/2 amount of detergent required on cloth diapers). For hard water, also use Calgon Water Softener to help clean diapers and then double rinse. Be sure to get a wetbag to take with you when you leave the house. Also be sure to use a cloth diaper friendly rash cream to avoid repel/leaking issues, which you may not even need because you won't have many rashes in cloth, unlike disposables - we use California Baby or Northern Essence Better Butter. These are so easy to use, and contain all messes, unlike disposable diapers which can leak up baby's back. Cleaning is easy - just rinse it out with a diaper sprayer and you never have to touch the mess, then toss in a dry pail until laundry day. We love these and would recommend to everyone!
