perfect printer.

With so many printers to choose from, how do you pick the right one for you? Consider what you plan to print and go from there.

mobile printing & apps.

  • mobile printing.

Want to print emails from your office printer before you get to work? Print coupons before you even get home? It's a cinch. Print from anywhere inside your home using your home wireless network and wireless-enabled printer. Or print and share from anywhere in the world using your printer's email-print technology. Some printers can print from tablets and smartphones, too.

  • web apps.

With web apps, you can boost your printer potential—and maybe even get a little creative.

  • fun & then some.

Web apps let you do more with your printing, like:

    • Print greeting cards, wrapping paper, movie tickets, coupons—even signage.
    • Print preselected articles from major news sources and images from photo sites.
    • Print puzzles, activity pages, paper crafts and storybooks for kids.
    • Automate a series of tasks, such as scanning and emailing documents.
    • Scan and save web documents to remember later.
    • Display RSS feeds, the news, weather or even your Twitter and Facebook accounts (with large LCDs on newer models).

Make sure to purchase the right ink or toner for your printer. Check the information on your printer itself or on an existing cartridge. Or, use the handy Ink Finder Guide in the printer aisle of Target stores.

pick your paper.

Think about what you want to print and pick the best paper for the job.

  • general-purpose

A good, all-purpose paper for printing and copying with an inkjet or laser printer.

  • inkjet

Great for printing in color—using an inkjet printer, of course.

  • laser

The extra-smooth surface gives you sharp contrast with a laser printer.

  • photo

Available in smooth and glossy finishes, transparencies and iron-on T-shirt transfers.

  • large-format

Legal and tabloid-sized (make sure your printer can output them).

  • card stock

For greeting cards and postcards. (Follow manufacturer's recommendation; other heavier papers may cause paper jams.)

  • color

Best for printing in black only.
