The last time I sewed was almost 20 years ago. I bought this on a whim and have used it several times. Easy to use and lightweight. Great purchase.

I bought this as a long term machine for my daughter (9 years old.) It works well, easy to set up, and with a little reading, has many features. [...]

This is a great sewing machine. I had never used one before and was able to set it up myself (with a little help from You Tube!). I fixed a shirt the day I got it. I would recommend to anyone, especially those who want to learn/try to sew. I haven't even tried all the options it has yet!

I've had a trusty Singer all of my life and it recently gave me a range of problems, so I decided to purchase a cheapo to get through my projects. This cheapo has been good so far! The only reason I don't give it a 5 is because I'm worried that since it's made of many plastic parts I might break something. Basically the piece that you open and close over the bobbin looks like it might break if not handled carefully. Also, if you're thread gets caught on the fabric and tangled below in the bobbi n, be careful of pulling the fabric too hard to break the thread.... the whole dark plate that you see under the foot and above the bobbin moves very easily.... it's also plastic and could easily break on you.For my purposes, this works great so far. Also, you should be covered under the warranty for 25 years, because Target is one of the specified dealers for selling the product.

you cannot go wrong with this sewing machine.[...] light weight but heavy enough to stay in place when sewing.

Set up was easy and it appears to work well. We have had one problem with the bobbin but resolved the issue.

This was a birthday gift for my 17 year old daughter, who loves to sew and make her own designs. She set it up and was stitching away immediately ! She loves it and says she can do so much more with it than her old machine. It was a great value.

Everything you could possibly want in a sewing machine...

This sewing machine is fantastic! I've had it since July of 2008 and it has worked wonders. Read the quick start instructions and you'll be ready to go! I've never had any problems with this machine nor do I expect to have any in the future (knock on wood!) I love that it comes with the automatic threader and built-in thread cutter. It also has a lot of stitches to try out. I definitely recommend this machine!!

Someone mentioned in a review that their machine came stuck in reverse, but that is really easy to fix at home, no cost! You just need to tilt it forward and give it one good smack, maybe heating it with a hairdryer first. That said, I LOVE my machine. I use it for gentle clothes and heavy duty babywearing products, as well as for baby clothes and my own odd projects. I find this machine to be an excellent investment that will really work for you!

I took a chance on this based on the recommendation of a fellow quilter. I have had little experience machine sewing, but with taking classes and such, wanted a portable, versatile little machine. I love it! It's sewn everything from little purses to quilt blocks, and this week, I just used it to quilt an entire project. The quilt in question is smallish at 42 x 52, but considering I wasn't using the quilting foot (don't have it yet), I was suitably impressed with the 2600XL's performance. Bobb in winding and installation are a cinch, and so is stitch adjustment.I have not had the reported "stitching in reverse" problem, but suggest that Brother can only warranty or fix the machine if their instructions to take it to a service center are followed. I don't expect a repair person to come to my home, nor an arbitrary replacement for what could be an easy to fix problem. Thankfully, after hours and hours of happy sewing, this previously unconfident seamstress is still loving this machine.
