I have one of the 8-cube and have had 4 of the 9-cube. The first two I had to sell when I moved across country, and re-purchased as soon as I moved. I bought the 8-cube unit to begin storing baby clothes and other baby items for my baby on the way, and put the whole thing together by myself at around 15 weeks pregnant in about 20 minutes. Just as all of my 9-cube units, it is beautiful! i only wish the 9-cubes had been available in espresso, though they are beautiful in cherry. It isn't TOO har d to chip a piece while assembling or moving into place, but it's also easy to avoid this. The backing units do look cheap, but once assembled and on the wall, it's not very noticeable unless you're really looking hard. I receive compliments on them all the time, they are very beautiful, functional, the drawers hold so much, I just love them. I will be adding an additional 8-cube unit soon!

We bought this to fit a niche in the nursery and for extra storage for books and miscellaneous baby stuff. My hubby & I put it together in about 45 minutes. The quality and materials are similar to other shelves at this price point and after securing it to the wall with the provided hardware, I am very happy with this shelving unit.

I love the value and that it has 8 cubes. You could use it horizontally or vertically, but I like vertical because it acts as a shelf as well. Easy to put together and functional. I bought it for my 7 yr olds bedroom for his things to go in, but knowing it will transition into any room in the house if he decides he doesn't want in his room anymore.

I gave this 4 stars because although it looks great and organizes my son's toys perfectly, some of the rods don't hold the shelf tight enough. Because of the individual cubicle slats, I know it isn't going anywhere but the rods that go into the holes to attach the shelving went in too deep not allowing for enough to stick out to get a good grip on the shelf you are attaching. I have mine HORIZONTAL and it works perfectly, but would be afraid to have it vertical because of this reason. There are holes to attach another one to it if you want which is nice BUT if you are not attaching another one, they don't give you covers to fill the holes. I put it together during my son's nap so it was quite easy. Overall I like it but will just be careful if moving it to another room.

It was really easy to assemble and it looks great in our living room. We bought this to store some of our son's baby stuff - books, toys, etc. - and it holds everything we have in the cubes well - we are very happy with the purchase!

[..] so i strted putting it together and it toook me 3 hours because the pieces arnt labeled i took it apart and put it back together because you think its easy till you get to the end! there is a piece that has holes all the way through use that one for the middle!! also there was a mishap in the way they made the pieces no matter what i did it wouldnt work right! now it looks great except for one visual flaw. overall its ok in assembally and for the money its great!

Although this item was easy to assemble; I was disappointed in that there were scratches, the end of the side panels were cracked, the short dowels were jacked up and 10 of the cover caps were broke!!!!! :0( [...] All in all it seems sturdy enough and I will have to make due with what I got...

We bought this over the weekend to go in our new baby's room for clothing storage but figured we could transition this over for toy storage when he gets bigger. I am 37 weeks pregnant and my 6 year old and I set this up together last night in less than 15 minutes. I also liked the variety of color options for the shelving unit and bins. My only "dislike" was the backing pieces for the every other slots were very cheap and looked like cardboard (color and all) so we just didn't assembl e this part. I have the unit up against a wall so nothing will fall back behind it. Very stable and will work well for our needs. There is also a bracing bracket/piece included in the hardware to attach this to the wall to avoid it falling forward (this will be a huge relief when he decides he wants to climb it).

Very happy with this item. We had tons of arts and crafts stuff spilling out of a cabinet, the pantry and piling up in areas around the kitchen table. Now we have a clean looking wall of cubes (I bought 3 of these) and everything is contained! It doesn't take up much space, but provides lots of storage. I also like that I can use some of the spaces as shelves - very versatile. Did not take long to assemble. I elected to not put on the backing. Everyone is telling me what a great idea it was to put this in my kitchen.

I do not consider myself great at putting things together. I'm a woman in my twenties and these pieces are super easy to put together. The directions are easy for anyone to understand and it took me about 25-30 minutes to put it together. I bought this because I needed a way to organize my dvds and it's perfect. I bought this piece and also the 9 cube- both in ash black. The pieces are extremely versatile and can be used to organize most anything. I did not have to secure it to a wall, but I do not have children or pets, so it may be more imperative to do so for someone who does. I accidentally bought 1 expresso and 1 black and went to return the expresso one ( as I had already bought one black piece and put it together.) Although I did not have my receipt, I had the credit card I purchased it with, and as always, Target didn't give me a hard time about it to changing it for the color I needed. I have always purchased furniture at target because their return/ exchange policy is so lenient. The pieces fit great inside my small apartment and I would recommend them for anybody to buy. Something to know when you are buying the piece however ( this is true for both the 9 cube and the 8 cube) and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the panels in the back that you see on the unit are made out of cardboard and are folded in half when you take them out of the box. So there is a crease down the middle of the back panels. It isn't really noticeable and if you put the fabric bins in those places you obviously won't see it at all. You can't beat the price of the piece, regardless.
