What this heater does do is put out a fair amount of heat, using a combination of radiating element and forced air fan. What it does NOT do at all well -- or safely -- is maintain a steady temperature. The thermostat sometimes reads wildly off -- as much as 15 degrees colder than it actually is in my experience. Maybe more. And that means that if you set the thermostat to turn off at 74, it might well continue on up the scale into the 80s or above. This is apparently what happened to a frien d with the same unit. She was upstairs for a few hours, with the unit on, supposedly governed by its thermostat -- when she came down, the room was extremely warm -- but VERY SCARY -- the cord and plug were ACTUALLY MELTING. DO NOT TRUST THIS UNIT'S THERMOSTAT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!

i purchased the model 5165, store #085-19-0007 at silverdale store. Not finding this exact match on site though. Wanted to replace a very old heater that pretty much wore out, to heat far off room from main thermostat. Main thermostat is set at 68 for wee morning and far room is cooler. The model 5165 only gets a 150 sq.ft. room to 69 according to the on board thermometer after running 4 plus hours. Not really thrilled about the purchase. So far would not recommend this heater. ---Looks nice, r uns smooth with intermittant chatter of some part inside, does not seem to heat even a small room well.

i had to exchange the same item twice with the same problem , a huge crack on the handle. by the second time I plug it in and the rotating base was getting stuck barely moving. very disappointed I feel they are not packing the piece properly. I will try my luck with another product
