I think the price for this is reasonable, and the box is a lot classier than a cardboard box.
For the nay sayer who is complaining about the wood box, go buy the real thing for [$] at [...]
Its [$]. Come on.
Although I don't find Scrabble that interesting it is a crowd pleaser as far as boardgames go. My main attraction to this was the handsome case it is in, which means we are able to store it out in our living area where it blends in with the decor rather than hiding it in a closet somewhere. All in all a good buy, I got a great price so I'm satisfied!
I love the Vintage Book series. As an avid reader and board game player I love these sets for storage and for play. We received Scrabble as a shower present and opened it as soon as we were back home. The board is fine and the tiles are of the same quality as any other Scrabble set I've used. We've played several times, and the set includes the essentials for game play. If you want something deluxe or higher end, this isn't the set, but for people who want to play a quick game and not take up c
loset or shelf space, this set is great.
[...]I was planning on growing my collection of the original style. I get one or two a year as birthday and Christmas presents.I received this one for Christmas yesterday and will be returning it. It looks awful and cheap. Bring back the other ones-- you can be sure I won't be collecting any of this new style.
We were excited to get several of our favorite board games as wedding presents, not disappointed about the change from the book style to the new plain box. We like that they can fit on our bookshelf! We were eager to start a game of Scrabble, however...the game was varnished shut! My husband ended up using a razor blade to pry it open. Poor decision on the manufacturer's part. Not Target's fault, but...a bit disappointed with Park Brothers on their rush to get the game out...pry should have wai
ted til things were dry.Our game was delayed because we spent about 1/2 hr trying to get the box open. Perhaps another night. Not overly impressed. :s I hope our other games are not varnished shut as well.
Everyone I know loves the OLDER Vintage Wood Book version. My friends and I are upset you discontinued the older wood book style and replaced it with this box. If it's just a a wood box, you might as well just buy the cardboard box version. If you brought back the older wood book style, we would buy ALL of them in a heart beat for the fear you would discontinue them again. PLEASE bring back the old style!
Target took a step back when they redesigned the binding for this series. I am sure it was to save money, but I am completely disappointed and I hope it is worth it to lose repeat buyers. I planned on buying all of the vintage games because they looked so cool. Last year, they had raised, rounded binding that looked liked books. (See the Library Jenga Vintage Series to see a picture) How can they call it 'Library' now? It is just a wooden box. The glamor is gone. Even though they lost the extra
wood for the spine, they still charge the same price. All around bad decision. For those that never bought the origianl ones, you will be probably be happy, but now, I will stop buying them because having a mixed lot will just remind me that I missed out on a extremely smooth complete set. If you decide to go for the complete line of the vintage series, you should now keep them in your closet because if you display them, your friends will know you got the cheap ones.As a matter of fact, I am returning my purchase of this Scrabble game as it will upset me to have even one of these cheaper versions in my house. If the spines return, I may continue buying them again, but today, Target has let me down as it has taken a shortcut on a quality product. Sad.
