My husband and I live part time in California and part time in rural Baja Sur, Mexico. Here in Baja we have solar panels and batteries for electricity and propane for cooking. Appliances that use a high wattage of power such as an iron and others need a generator. There are many electric coffee pots on line, but only this Medelco and a camping aluminum one I found was non-electric. There are none in the stores. I got my first one fromTarget, but it accidently broke recently. I ordered the two re
maining ones in stock to have a spare. My neighbor loaned me her spare one she had from Target. We love them. I will have the new ones soon. A friend is bringing them down here to Mexico. [...]
I owned this coffee maker for about a year. The tension from the metal band wrapping around the glass causes it to eventually break in half. Luckily when mine broke there wasn't hot coffee in it. I also agree with another reviewer who mentioned the plastic filter basket makes the coffee taste a little strange. I'd go with a stainless steel coffee maker.
I am very pleased with my new percolator.. It makes good coffee and it also does a good job of just boiling water. One of the things I like most about this product is that it is very easy to clean. It always looks nice and clean and the water tastes very good.
I purchased the Medelco 8-cup glass stovetop percolator. I liked the fact it is for a stovetop, is glass, but I do not like the plastic basket, stem, or spreader. The plastic gives a strange taste to the coffee. I would only purchase another of these pots if they made the inside parts of glass or stainless steel.
I have purchased 3 of these percolators and really prefer the coffee brewed in this coffee maker to the drip variety.Makes great coffee!Hint: Use the "wrap-around" style coffee filters in the basket (made specifically for percolators), measuring 9-1/8" x 9-1/2"
