I'm a sewing teacher and I bought four machines online for my students to use in classes (age 9 through adult). They're still working great 3 years later and I love that I can tune them up myself with nothing but a small screwdriver and some machine oil. The only complaint I have is that the speed of each of the four machines is different. Two are fast, two are reasonably slow. They must be tuned that way in the factory and there's no way to adjust it after the fact. The kids have trouble with the faster machines sometimes. But on a machine this inexpensive I guess you can't expect adjustable speed. The best thing about this machine is the vertical bobbin. It's hard to find them nowadays and I still think they're sturdier and less glitchy than horizontal bobbins. Not as good for free-motion stitching, but you can't drop the feed dog on this machine anyway so it doesn't matter.I recommend this machine to everyone I know. I realize many other reviewers have had problems with it; maybe there have been batches with defective bobbins? I have never had a problem with any of mine, though.

I bought this sewing machine for my 9 year old daughter. She loves it! She loves how easy it is to control and how it works. The instructional video is Awsome! It show her step by step how to use her machine and its functions. Great for beginning sewers.

Originally I purchased this machine last year to teach myself how to sew. Previous to buying this machine I did not know anything about sewing. When I brought the singer tradition home I took it out the box plugged it in, looked at the user manual and began to sew. It was so easy I didn't even have to look at the dvd it came with. Because of the ease of this machine I have even gotten so good that I am now taking a class at a fashion school in NYC. I am happy with my purchase, the singer tradit ion has not failed me, I have no bobbin or tension issues and I use my sewing machine almost everyday to get projects done. I went from sewing circles to making full garments on this machine. It is a great buy and I would recommend it to anyone. In fact, I will be needing a more advanced machine with more functions, so I am giving this one to my mom, and upgrading my singer. Also, since I love my tradition so much I think I will stick with singer and get a Serger too; since a lot of my school work has over lock finishes.

I was surprised to see so many negative reviews for this machine. Setup was simple and I was sewing right away. I also eventually had problems with the bobbin thread getting caught, but I found that when I re-threaded the TOP thread, this issue went away. As a beginner, I am finding this machine gets a lot of jobs done, including quilting, hemming, and crafting. If there are manufacturing defects, I haven't noticed them in my unit.

Couldn't really use it because of tension problems

I have wasted so much thread on this machine. The problem with the bobbin jamming is due to the top tension, which was so finicky I couldn't actually ever sew anything!!!The only way I could get it to work was to put the tension at a high setting, make the thread length the longest I could, sew at a slow pace and PULL the fabric through the machine while it sewed. I ditched this machine and bought me a vintage [ brand name] from [other retailer] that I love. It will actually sew two pieces of f abric together without me pulling my hair out! [ ......]But do not waste your money on this machine.

Good Morning,I bought this machine 2 weeks ago, and everything was going fine, then all of a sudden the thread keeps bunching up in the bobbin. I have tried everything, and I cant get it to work. I decided to finally read the reviews, only to realize that I am not the only one wth this problem. I am going to try one more time and if I can't get it to work. sorry Target but it is coming back.

I bought this sewing machine a few months back. I allways wanted one, but they tend to be so much $$$. I am just learning to sew so I didn't want to spend a ton on one. I didn't know how much use I would get out of it to begin with. I have had no problems with this at all. Very simple to use if you are like me and have no idea what you are doing. I did get the bobbin jammed once, but that was because I put it in wrong, and since then I have had no problems. It is very light weight and easy to m ove around. Love it!

I tried the smaller easy stitch which was horrible, and exchanged it for this one. It said it was for beginners and the DVD included was GREAT, very easy to understand and gives a few good tips. I was sewing within about a hour (after some difficulties threading - never done it before and some practice stitches). I made some curtains, sewed some hems and fixed a big tear in a pair of shorts! I love this machine and I think I am now hooked on sewing, though I never thought I'd like it all! hoora y!

I got this machine as a birthday present and it worked ok for my first project...it took a few tries to pull the bobbin thread up through the bottom and it but once it was threaded it worked ok. When I got ready to start my second project I kept having the same issues a lot of the other people who've reviewed this machine have had. Birdsnest in the bobbin shuttle...not being able to thread it etc. I've been sewing for a long time and I always thought of Singer as a reliable brand but I think th ey've gotten cheap with their manufacturing standards and need to go back to the drawing board.
