I first learned about buckwheat pillows when a Japanese visitor complained that he couldn't get a good night's sleep with the pillows at his hotel. When I got a chance I tried a buckwheat pillow for myself and have been hooked on them for more than 20 years. I'm a side sleeper, and the buckwheat hulls hold my head in the perfect resting positionso all my neck muscles relax. You don't realize how much work it is to hold position with a fluffy pillow until you've gotten accustomed to sleeping on buckwheat. I have to take it with me on vacations, or risk a sore neck using hotel pillows. I don't mind at all that these are a bit smaller than normal pillows--since I "stay put" once I get comfortable.

Not what I expected, but ok.

It's smaller than I thought it'd be, even for a standard-sized pillow. I'm now wishing I knew what it looked like in person. I should've paid more attention to the dimensions in the product description. Also, I'm used to big, soft, fluffy pillows so the firmer feel of the buckwheat took me by surprise. When I pick the pillow up, it feels and sounds like a big bean bag, but when I lay it down and put my head on it, it conforms to my head and neck, which is pretty cool. Bottom line... if you wa nt a large pillow that offers firm support for side sleepers, I'm certain there's something out there much better than this pillow. But if you want something inexpensive, hypoallergenic, firm, and of a decent quality, then this is a good choice.
