I couldn't get over how beautiful the writing was: Samantha Bruce-Benjamin's style is lyrical but it just carries you away into the 1930s, when the novel is set, and tells this incredible story about four women whose lives are fatefully linked in a way that is so shocking when it's revealed, yet so brilliantly done: you will never see the twist coming. It's such an escapist read but it's also literary and the writing haunts you long after the story is finished. This is the best book I've read i n a long time. It's also the perfect summer read as it's set on an island in the Mediterranean Sea in this privileged world: it reminded me a lot of Rebecca. I think it's definitely a film! I can't wait to see who would play the characters.

Beautiful! Deeply Moving.

read this in a day-and-a-half. It is the perfect literary summer read, like Atonement. It's set in this very glamorous, wealthy world on an island in the Mediterranean in the 1920s and 30s and it's about four different women and the heartbreaking story that links them to one another. It's full of obsession, betrayal, deception and the twists at the end are so surprising that you keep thinking about it: there's something about the way Samantha Bruce-Benjamin writes that doesn't leave you. It's s o moving at the end and it's really a book about universal truth. The idea that we all want to keep forever the one person we love the most. I highly would recommend it to anyone.

A new Atonement!

I LOVED this book. If you like period books like Rebecca, Atonement and The Great Gatsby, you should definitely buy this. The writing is beautiful, very lyrical, and I loved how it was told by four different narrators who are all hiding secrets, so youre never sure who to trust. Just when you think you have it figured out, you dont. As soon as I started reading, I couldnt put it down. I gave it to my friend once Id finished and the exact same thing happened. The characters dont leave you. Long after the book is finished, they stay with you and you cant say that about many books. I would read this again, it was so good.

Haunting and Beautiful!

The best book I have ever read, Samantha Bruce-Benjamins writing is so unique and beautiful that you simply cannot compare it to any other author in any way. You become lost in the story and I simply could not put the book down. The setting being the Mediterranean, the beautiful characters, all of which are very individual but touch you in different ways, and the story itself transfixes you in a world away from your own, but in a world that is so believable, as at some point in our lives we hav e all loved, lost, been lied to, felt happiness, experienced disappointment and weve all adored that special someone. A must-read!
