There are tripod lamps costing [$$$-$$$$] that look quite similar to this one, so style-wise this is an excellent value. This one even has the criss-cross leg style which I prefer. Though, I was hesitant to buy this lamp when I saw/felt the display model in the store as it didn't look like it would be sturdy--displays are up on a high shelf and bolted down so you can't really "test" them much-- but I decided to try it anyway. I'm glad I did because once I assembled it at home, it w as quite solid. No, it doesn't weigh a ton but neither do those [$$$$] versions. The lamp feels solid & stays confidently in place while turning the light switch on/off which is all that really matters to me. The only thing I wish is that they had this lamp with black or oil-rubbed bronze legs, but I plan to spray-prime and paint the legs as soon as its warm enough outside. Then it will be 100 percent perfect and look even more expensive...

I saw this item online and in the stores. I wanted something modern and affordable. I finally purchased it and I'm very happy with my decision. It was very easy to assemble. The construction is solid and well made. The only downside I noticed is where the metal attaches to the cotton shade, the fabric isn't neatly tucked and you can notice it when the light is on. No big deal. The picture online makes the cotton shade look narrow at the bottom, but don't let that picture fool you. It is a perfe ct circular shade. I would have expected to pay over hundred dollars for this lamp...and I'm glad I didn't have to. I love it. It's not going anywhere.
