Purchased this 42" Visio at the end of January. Very pleased with the picture and sound quality, but not pleased with the overall quality of the TV. Just last week the TV died. After turning it off for a few hours to let the little ones take a nap, it would not turn back on. I expect a nearly [$$$] TV to last more than 2 months! I googled the problem - TV receiving power but will not turn on - and it appears to be a fairly common problem with this model. Also, come to find out that tw o separate family members have had Vizio TVs that have died in the same manner. Will definitely not be purchasing a Vizio ever again! Returned it to Target with no problems and got a Magnavox instead.

Underpriced!

I bought this based my parent's experience with a Plasma Vizio that has lasted them several years. When I purchased this it was on sale for [$], making it the best value of the middle- to-lower end brands, if you want to regard Vizio that way. Setup was cake, if you have more than one HDMI device you would do well to look for an HDMI splitter on [retailer], found for [$] you can also get good quality HDMI cables for 4. The sound is the only drawback, definitely audible but then I was shopping f or picture. The picture is quite crisp, and despite a modest refresh rate I've had no problems with movies, sports or video games in HD.The picture settings do need to be adjusted as the color can appear muted and a little dim out of the box, but I spent all of an hour finding the right balance for the room it was placed in. The picture is also dependent on the device you are using. All in all, I couldn't be happier with the price or quality.

This is easily the best 42" tv I've seen. I made the mistake of buying a Westinghouse 40" LED last night. I literally used that tv for 20 minutes before realizing I'd made a horrible mistake. I picked up this Vizio in its place. The picture of this Vizio is 10x better than that cheap ole LED TV. The settings are endless. Right out of the box the picture was beautiful. I didn't need to change a thing with the picture. The audio is very good on this unit. It take some playing with the a udio settings, but it's perfect not. It has a warm, deep, clear sound. Not "tinny" at all. I would recommend this tv to Mother Theresa if I had ever needed to. It's that good. Also, the price is soooo nice. These Vizio's are way under priced. This is a [$] tv for a fraction of the cost. No need to research any more tv's. Go buy it! It's worth it!

I'm a gamer, so I bought this TV to mainly game. I bought the TV a couple of days ago & I set it up last night. The picture is OK, it's a little dim, even after changing it on the settings. The remote is trash, I dont know if I got a defective remote or if that's how they all are, but I have to press the buttons like 5x before it works. Now the sound, the sound is amazing! I love the sound quality of this TV. When I'm playing COD I can hear the opposing teams foot steps very loud & cle ar, it's awesome. It's a great TV for the price, I haven't watched movies on it yet, but I'm sure it's not bad. I'd recommend this TV.

I bought this TV on 2/3/12 for the family room and in time for the Super Bowl final, to replace an old [brand] I already have another Vizio in the lounge which is fantastic, so I thought I would buy this, and I am not disappointed. Overall it is an excellent TV, good picture and sound, with an air of quality about it that makes me feel good.I especially like the Vizio badge that glows orange when the set is in standby, and lights-up bright white when switched on. A great TV, and on sale at Targ et for [$] makes it even better. Thoroughly recommended. I even bought another Vizio for the bedroom!!

I think the clarity could be better, granted we're still waiting on our cable installation, but for the price it's a great size TV for the value, which was awesome. I'm thoroughly impressed with the sound--the quality is great and we keep it under 15 and it's still plenty loud enough.

I purchased this tv because it was a great deal and I had heard great things about Vizio. Not impressed - the picture was not sharp and the colors were off even though I tried the different settings. I returned it and purchased a Magnavox 40" which is fantastic.

We went from a 15 year old Sony TV to this one, so you can understand why we gave 5 stars in all categories! But one word of caution...the listing states this model has 3 HDMi connections. IT DOES NOT! There are only 2 on the back. There is not one on the side. That is available on the E421VL, E470VL or E551VL. There is a USB port on the side on this model, however. Just thought you might like to know that little detail.

I upgraded my main TV from a 32" [brand name] set with great picture and poor sound performance. Paid [$$$] for the Vizio before Thanksgiving. Love the TV, love the picture, love the sound! It DOES need more HDMI inputs which can be fixed with a basic adapter. Just an all around good set. Plays streaming fine with a WIFI box. I am not a gamer, so I am unable to comment on video games. If you find this set for [$$$] or less, it is a very fair price....you won't be sorry.
