We have two children, and a new puppy, so we were in the market for something to keep our carpets sanitary.It is REALLY heavy, which I guess is why it doesn't hold much water. That's sort of a hassle, having to stop every 10-15 minutes, but filling it up is super easy, so it's not actually that bad. Putting the thing together was supposed to be fairly easy-only four screws-, but my husband..who is extremely handy..couldn't get the screws to stay in. Once we got it together, we were SHOCKED at h ow much dirt and grime it picked up! Our carpet is only 2 months old! The spot cleaner is really handy for dog accidents, but there's no instructions on how to use only half of the cleaning stuff, so you have to fill it just to clean one little spot. You could probably guess, but we haven't tried yet. It wasn't really useful when we tried it out in the car. We're going to try a different cleaner-we used the pet one-,but it didn't get any of the stains out of car seats.

This machine is a real hassle to use. The fibers from the carpet, which are often soaked in something that smells, like animal pee, milk, etc. get stuck inside little parts that you absolutely cannot reach. There are parts of plastic that are just too tight to reach and the fibers get sucked up into those crevices and you cannot reach them, even with a twisted wire. I tried. When the fibers dry out the entire closet smells like old pee or soiled milk. Disappointing.

My cousin and I live together in our Grandmother's old house and we are currently in the process of rehabbing it. A large portion of the house is carpeted and the carpet is about 20 years old...It had never been cleaned and was in awful shape. My cousin, who, by the way, is a contractor, was planning on replacing it...I tried convincing him to split the cost of this machine with me but he insisted it would be a waste of $ bc the carpet was beyond cleanable...so I went out and bought it myself. After going over the carpet twice with this machine it looks like it's brand new...now instead of spending somewhere around $3,000 replacing the carpet, we just need to get it stretched...I bought the machine about 2 wks. ago so as long as it holds up, the five star rating will remain! Oh, and a little side note; I've always been a huge fan of Hoover and originally purchased the "max extract77." After going to refill the fresh water tank for the first time during its initial use, it started leaking cleaning solution and water everywhere. This machine is worth the couple extra bucks...Bissell has definitely won me over! I'm very pleased with my purchase.

i have a sickly cat who pees where ever she wants to this machine quickly and easily removed the stain and odor. as a renter it was worth the expense. None of us like not getting money back at the end of a lease! Even using it every weekend i am surprised at how dirty heavy traffic areas get. While i understand the other reviews comments on weight, it is a heavy unit but considerably lighter then one you would rent and of course it is heavy it is an actually carpet steamer. One user mentioned carpet fiber irritation, it does get carpet fibers around the brush area but there are instructions for removing the brushes and cleaning that area out, also every other carpet cleaner i have used has done the same thing. It does have to be emptied quiet often if you are cleaning a larger area but it is worth it for a good deep clean and for the experience of NOT having to lug around one of those giant rentable units.

I used Bissell Lift Off on high traffic areas, the entryway & the family room. With 2 children you can imagine how dirty our carpet can get. We usually rent carpet cleaning machines and I was surprised when the extracted water was black. What we thought of as normal wear was actual filth. I am sick to my stomach when I think that my 2 yr. old would pick up food off the carpet. This carpet cleaner is an answer to my prayers. The carpet looks brand new. I am not a handy person and I managed t o put the handle on in few minutes. The option of having a portable spot cleaner is genius. I had a stubborn spot on the narrow spiral stairs that was impossible to reach and it took few minutes to clean with the portable cleaner. The suction is great as it took minutes for the carpet to dry. It came at the best time ever. This holiday season I will be showing off my brand new carpet wink wink. On first look this machine is a little funny looking. It is quite large and while not heavy, it does feel funny pushing it around. The cord is not long enough. It does a pretty good job on carpets and I was surprised just how quickly I can get a room done. The floor is left a lot cleaner then previous and usually does a good job at removing stains. The machine does pull up a lot of dog hair and leave clumps of it on the floor and on the bottom of the machine. This is a big downside because I th en have to go behind and pick the clumps up. The tank is tiny and I have to refill it often. It is nice being able to clean couches and stuff, but the tool is a pain and would leak water on the sides and if I was using it straight up and down - water would drip down my arm. The cleaner that comes with the steamer is really good. I think this steamer is not bad using it upright, but the portable mode needs to be worked on so it does not leak. I do think it is overpriced. The Lift off Deep reach cleaner overall did a great job on my carpets. I even tried it on my tiled kitchen floor remove dirt from the grout very well. the machine itself was a little heavy caring down the stairs but not to heavy. the only thing I wish was that the water container was bigger. had to fill it up often for big rooms. I did like the fact that I could do my stairs with the easy to remove spot cleaner, made it very easy to do the stairs. overall good product

I went through a lot of carpet cleaners and this one by far is the best. My carpet was stained from my three kids and dog, spilling drinks, food, and sticky stuff that I don't even know what that was. My whole carpet in every room had old stains. After putting it together I started to clean the carpet and WOW! I didn't even know that my carpet was so dirty. The carpets came out beautiful and looking brand new when I was done. I am so happy with this machine! I was going to have my carpets clean ed by a professional and he quoted [$] so I went and bought a machine knowing that I will have it for the next time and save money. I am so glad that I decided on this machine it is a heavy machine but who cares when it does such a great job.

We looked forward to seeing a difference once we ran the cleaner, but instead it cleaned in streaks. So the next day we tried another room, re-read the instructions and called Bissell who walked us thru some steps, but we did it right the first time. So the next time we just went over the [...] carpet in a horizontal and vertical path many times. Still we did not notice much difference in the appearance of the carpet. Note that our carpet is dirty and I would have thought it would be real o bvious that it had been cleaned. Also the drying time took a long time. We went over it probably 20 times and then it took about 60 hours to completely dry. Maybe we got a defective product. The rollers seemed to be working and the solution is coming out but it just doesn't seem like a good machine. If I get a chance to have it serviced I will write a follow up review.

This product came almost fully assembled. I just needed to apply 4 screws to attach the handle to the machine. The problem is the screws need to go in an UPWARD position. I went through 3 screwdrivers trying to put them in. I'm still not sure if they're in right, but the handle hasn't fallen off yet! The water tank is easy to fill with a flat base, and machine heats up quickly in 1-2 mins. The tank is small. For a room 11x13 feet, I had to fill the water tank 2x. After I got used to the machine , I moved faster from room to room, and filled it up less often. You can see how much it cleans by all the dirt collected in the dirty water chamber. The only complaint I have about this machine is it leaves wet, fiber, dust clumps on the floor. Going over them with the cleaner doesn't help, so I just picked them up by hand. After doing 4 rooms, I found more clumps on the bottom of the machine & wiped them off. Cleaning after use is easy to do by following instructions in enclosed manual.
