The rock music landscape is littered with bands circa the early 21sts century that walk the fine line between melody and rage, and the Orlando, FL-based quintet, Hand to Hand, is certainly one such band. On their 2008 limited-edition EP, Breaking the Surface, the lads alternate between hitting you hard with unmistakably hardcore-esque bits and then, seemingly out of nowhere, they'll inject some emo and some alt, while singer Robert Kellom is the kinda guy who doesn't think twice about screaming his head off or melodic crooning. Whatever the song at hand calls for, he's certainly one well-prepared man (especially on such standout tracks "Shark Week" and "Paint This Town Black"). Alternative Press anointed Hand to Hand one of their "bands to watch," and after experiencing Breaking the Surface, you can certainly detect the promise that the band possesses. Greg Prato, Rovi
