I purchased this new model to replace my 9 year old Chefmate, the one with the poptart setting, which I loved. First, thinking that it would perform as well I threw away the box and my old one, which I NEVER do. I hope they take it back with out the box because it's going back ASAP. Second, the bread hardly fit in the slot which was not long enough and had to push the bread further down once the handle was depressed. Certainly not as long as the old one. Third, I set it on 4 and waited. I
looked inside when it didn't pop up and the bread was burning and had to forced it up. Fourth, there is no cool touch area on top like to old one, the metal surface gets extremely hot, hot enough to burn fingers. This toaster is horrible. BACK IT GOES. I'm not even giving it enough time for the handle to brake but it certainly is appears it's not long for this world. I fished my old one out of the trash. For now, I have to set in on low as it toasts unevenly, but at least it pops up on its own and doesn't burn the bread.
I bought this toaster because I needed one for college, so I thought I wouldn't spend too much. [$] is completely reasonable for a toaster, and all I needed it for was to toast bread. Well, as soon as it was out of the box, the lever wouldn't stay down so it would only toast if I help the lever down. Not a huge deal, not like I can do much while bread is toasting anyway. But then today, I was holding the lever down, toasting my bread, and the lever just broke off!
It doesn't look like it will ever get back in there, nor will the toaster ever work again now. Looks like I'm headed to Target this weekend to get a replacement, and it will NOT be this one.
Like many reviewers below, I bought this toaster about a month and a half ago and after a few weeks it just stopped working. It wouldn't latch and the heating mechanisms wouldn't turn on. So, now we have to buy a new toaster. Next time we'll spend a bit more I guess. Buying this toaster will not save you any money, even if it seems like a good deal.
I purchased this only because of the price and knowing that I will use it until I will find a good toaster that I like on sale. So after using this one for 10 days, the plastic thing that you push down the toasts broke down. Toast always was not done evenly, mostly burned.
I do not like this at all. If I saved my receipt I would return it, but do not have the receipt. Would not recommend it to anybody. Invest to a better toaster!
A fantastic toaster if you want to have to stand and hold the lever down, since the mechanism which holds mine broke in the first week of owning it. Plus, you can either burn things to a crisp or barely toast something at all--whatever your heart desires! 8 bucks is a ripoff, don't waste your money.
Unfortunately, I bought this toaster at Target and did not see these reviews until now. Just like everyone else is saying, my toaster was working beautifully for the last three months until the handle just went flying across my kitchen. So much for trying to be thrifty... Save your money or invest in a better quality toaster.
For some reason, the manufacturer uses cheap plastic for the lever. My last toaster, which lasted for approximately six years, had a similar design overall, but had a metal lever. The difference shows. The lever broke this morning after two months of ownership, and fewer than fifty uses overall. Bad design. I hope Target stops selling this piece of junk. In fact, I hope every retailer stops selling this piece of junk, and the guy who designed it gets bumped back down to apprentice status.
Its only redeeming feature is it looked nice. The cancel selector broke after three months. This required multiple toasting to get something toasted. Should have returned it then. The lever broke off 3 months after that. It's going back today. Even junky stuff should last at least a year.
Would have awarded zero or negative stars if the website would have allowed it.
This toaster is a piece of junk. Don't waste your money. The lever broke off the first time we used it. Went to push the bread down and the lever broke in half. Never even go to make the toast. We took it back [...]
