Motivation concerns the determinants of the direction, intensity, and persistence of behaviors, and includes their cognitive and affective aspects. Motivation theories propose different ways to conceptualize those determinants. This work collects recent research on motivation, grouped into two sections on global perspectives in motivation, and situational and contextual effects in motivation. Subjects explored include a framework for personal goals in collaborative learning contexts, moderators of approach-performance and avoidance-performance relationships in children, motivation development in novice teachers, the effects on motivation of students' perceptions of parental attitudes toward academic achievement, and the role of culture in negative mood and the availability of mood-regulation strategies. Contributors come from Europe, the US, and Australia. Wosnitza is affiliated with Murdoch University Perth, Australia. Annotation ?2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
