The late Iversen (former professor of marine science, U. of Miami) and his student Skinner (PhD, biological oceanography, U. of Miami) have compiled a guide to marine life of the West Atlantic, Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico that may be hazardous to humans. They offer chapters on species that bite; species that sting; species dangerous to eat; pests that harm swimmers and fishermen; flying fish, fish beak injuries, and fish processing injuries; and human/animal interactions. Typically, species are listed individually, with information on range, habitat, possible forms of injury, injury prevention, and aid to victims provided.
