Product Information

Forge Saranac CM is a great crossover bike, innovatively designed for handling a wide range of terrain, from paved pathways to light dirt trails. Powered by front and rear Shimano Altus derailleur and drivetrain with KMC chain and Shimano cassette, Saranac stands alone in overall quality. This Comfort Mountain Series unites the best of both worlds: a quality SR NEX shock in the front fork, WTB Comfort V Comp saddle and seat post suspension, adjustable stem for comfort or performance, an all Aluminum double butted quality frame and 26x1.95" mountain/hybrid tires. 19.5" frame stands over 31H" fits most riders 5’8" to 6’1". Note: Frame size is determined by measuring the distance from the center of the bottom bracket (the bolt that locks in the crank) to the top of the seat tube. Stand-over height is determined by measuring the distance from the ground to the top tube. A bike that you ride only on paved surfaces and never take off road should give you a minimum stand-over height clearance of 2", a bike that you ride on unpaved surfaces should give you a minimum of 3" of stand-over height clearance and a bike that you ride off road should give you a minimum of 4" of stand-over height clearance.

I got back into bicycling about a year ago and ride anywhere from 15-35 miles when I go out. I was looking for a good hybrid bike to ride on my "usual" paved trail. After putting 400+ miles on this bike I couldn't be happier with the purchase. The components are all very high quality and were set almost perfectly right out of the box. The Kenda tires ride smoothly and provide distinctively less resistance than the mountain bike that I was used to riding. The WTB seat and shock-absorbi ng neck do a great job of keeping me comfortable during my rides (no easy feat since I'm 200+ pounds). The shifts are smooth and the trigger-shifters are convenient and highly accurate (no jumping gears with these). Both the brakes are tires holding up extremely well after 400+ miles, and I expect I'll get a lot more miles from them. If you're someone who simply enjoys biking and is looking for a good quality hybrid bike at a really decent price then I would highly recommend this model. I've enjoyed every mile and gotten some great exercise, and I have no doubt that this bike would do just the same for anyone else. Bottom line - GET THIS BIKE!

I have been riding an inexpensive mountain bike from Sears for the last 15 years or so and, since it is on it's last legs, I decided that it was time to upgrade. I live in a small, hilly town in the blue ridge mountains (Blacksburg) and I ride mainly on roads and paved bicycle trails, although I imagine that I might one day do some off road riding as well (but not mountains, most likely). After much research, and after talking to the people at Forge, I settled on this bicycle as I was looking f or a "hybrid" bike that would be good for the type of riding I actually do, and imagine that I might do. I compared this bike, first of all, to the 17.5" Forge of the same model, as well as to the Schwinn Tourist bike (http://www.target.com/s?keywords=schwin n+tourist&searchNodeID=1038576}128799101 1&ref=sr_bx_1_1&x=0&y=0) which I actually purchased first and took home to try out. The Schwinn is a nice bike too, but the tires are 700c and are much narrower than those on the Forge. I'd say the Schwinn is really more of an urban bike and the Forge is more of a true hybrid, although it leans towards mountain bike. I returned the Schwinn as I did not feel it was a true hybrid bike, which is what I was looking for (it is a nice bike though and is very fast and light). As to the size, I am 5'9" and this bike fits me just right, I think the 17.5" frame would have been too small. That said, if I was really riding this off-road, I would not have the recommended 2-3 inches of clearance straddling the bike, more like 1 inch (but that is how I like it).The quality and look of the bike is very good for a "department store" bike - I have had it at the LBS and they had nice things to say about it. Here are a few pictures of my bike [...]. I had to assemble the bike, of course, and I had to adjust the front and rear derailleurs as well as the brakes. None of it very difficult, although the derailleurs were a bit tricky to get set exactly right (a lot of good videos on YouTube for that). The tires are about 1.9" wide and are not knobby - they definitely seem like "cross-over" tires to me.The bike has a good suspension system and the seat is stiff, but comfortable. It does not come with a kickstand (like most mountain bikes), but I have added one.As I mentioned, I called Forge a couple of times in advance to ask questions about the bike - they were responsive and helpful.

I got my Forge Saranac last July. The bike is holding up great after putting on about 600 miles on NYC streets as well as mountain trails. Even after having a bike accident on a trail that ended up breaking my rib, the bike just needed a brake adjustment. I'm planning on putting on about 2,000 miles this year on this bike and feel confident that the bike can take it. My wife liked my bike so much, she got the ladies version of the same bike Forge Devon. Highly recommended bike for anyone.

This bike was more of a mountain bike than I expected, really fat tires and very low gearing. Easy to assemble and most everything worked with little adjustment.Delivery time was short with good packaging. Good bike for the price.
