When their house is attacked because her mother volunteered to take in the young white woman who has come to teach black children at the Freedom School, Jolie is afraid, but she overcomes her fear after learning the value of education.
It's 1964, and Jolie is nervous when her mother allows a white Freedom Rider named Annie to spend the summer with them in their Mississippi home. Annie has traveled from up north to spend the summer teaching in a Freedom School, but after a brick is thrown through their house's window, Jolie is reluctant to attend Annie's school. However, Jolie eventually realizes that not being intimidated is the best way to fight back against hate and racism.
