Rated 5 out of 5 by from Black History I was asked to be a speaker for our Black History Program on my job. I didn't know how to start my speach. I ask a church member, which is a Librarian and she brought me this book, from Slave ship To Freedom Road. I read the book and enjoyed the book so much. This is what my speach was about. I want to have a skit for our Black History Program at church and I want to use this book as my subject and as the main story. Is there a skit for this book. This book is very undersandale for small children as well.I enjoyed it.

Reviewer: Janice N. Harrington, (Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books)

"Though sometimes abstruse and disjointed, Lester's writing can be direct and vivid. What is new to juvenile titles dealing with these issues is the book's visceral nature, which will touch even media-conditioned and information-numbered readers."
