How-to’s

  • Superior Preference® Appl. Instructions

    Before You Color

    • Do a skin allergy test by cleansing a quarter sized area of skin in the bend of your elbow. Using a plastic utensil, mix a small amount of the formula and apply a small portion of it to your skin.
    • Do not wash test area for 48 hours to see if reaction occurs. If there is any irritation call a doctor before coloring your hair.
    • Do a strand test by applying color to a small section of hair before covering your whole head. This will give you an idea of how long to keep the color mixture on in order to achieve your desired results and gives you a nice preview of what your hair will look like.

    All Over Color Application

Choose All Over Color Application if you are:

    • A first-time haircolor user.
    • Want to change haircolor.
    • You have not colored in 3 months or longer.

    Mix

    Step 1
    Put on premium colorist gloves.

    Step 2
Twist off the tip of the Color Optimizing Creme 1 applicator cap and then remove cap from bottle.

    Step 3
Pour entire contents of Color Gel 2 bottle into Color Optimizing Creme 1 applicator bottle and replace cap securely.

    Step 4
Place your gloved finger over open tip. Point away from your face and shake thoroughly until mixture is totally blended.

    Step 5
Never leave the tip unopened after mixing – the container may burst.

    Apply

    Step 1
Apply Superior Preference® color mixture immediately to dry, unwashed hair.

    Step 2
Use the applicator to squeeze mixture onto hair. For hair with resistant gray, apply to gray areas first.

    Step 3
Work gently through hair as you would a shampoo.

    Step 4
Use enough mixture to saturate your hair; then loosely pile your hair on top of your head. Short hair does not require using all of the mixture.

    Step 5
If any mixture gets on your skin, wipe it off with a damp towel.

    Step 6
Do not save any unused mixture; the container may burst.

    Time

For hair with little or no gray: 25 minutes. For gray hair: leave on for an additional 10 minutes.

    Rinse

When time is up, add a small amount of warm water to hair and work into lather. Then rinse with warm water until water runs clear. If mixture gets into your eyes, rinse immediately with lukewarm water.

    Condition

Apply enough Care Suprême® Color-Saving Conditioner 3 to thoroughly saturate your hair. Massage through hair. Leave on for 2 minutes. Rinse with warm water until water runs clear. Style as usual.

    Re-Condition Weekly

To help protect color against fading, replenish moisture, and optimize shine, use Care Suprême® Color-Saving Conditioner once a week after shampooing. Care Suprême® is enriched with Anti-Oxidant Vitamin E and UV filter to help color defy fade-out and dry-out. Package contains enough for up to 6 weekly applications.

    Tip: Maintaining Your Haircolor

To cover new growth and to keep your color rich and beautiful, reapply Superior Preference® every four to six weeks and use EverPure Sulfate-Free Color Care shampoo

    Touch-Up Application:

    Choose Touch-Up Application if:

You color every 4 to 6 weeks with the same shade.

    Mix

Follow steps the “Full-Head Application” section.

    Touch Up Roots

    Step 1
Make 1/4-inch partings in your hair with the applicator tip.

    Step 2
Apply color mixture onto new growth at roots only, working from the front to the back of the head.

    Step 3
Do not save any unused mixture; the container may burst.

    Time

    Step 1
Leave color on roots for 20 minutes. This will ensure even results.

    Step 2
After 20 minutes, work mixture through to ends for an additional 5 minutes.

    Rinse & Condition

Follow Rinse & Condition steps in the “All Over Color” section.

    Allergy Test

It’s essential to perform a skin allergy test 48 hours before you color your hair. This is the rule even if you’ve previously used a haircolor product. Allergies can develop suddenly, even though you’ve been coloring your hair for some time. Skin allergy test instructions are included in the instructional guide inside your box of haircolor.

    What’s Permanent Haircolor?

Changes the natural color of hair and does not wash out. Generally lightens hair up to two levels and easily covers gray.

    Tips for getting ready

    Pamper Your Locks

When your hair is in top condition, the color will be more predictable, “take” more easily, look more dimensional, and last longer. To get ready for coloring, indulge your hair with a deep-conditioning treatment a few days before you process it. This is especially important if your hair is naturally dry. Conditioner will help protect your locks from chemical damage and will infuse them with softness and healthy shine. Continue with EverPure Sulfate-Free Color Care throughout your color cycle to protect your new shade and to hydrate your locks.

    Keep Natural Oils In

Wash your hair the day before, not the day of, coloring. Doing this enables the natural oils in your scalp to act as a buffer when you are applying haircolor or lightener.

    Know the Chemistry

If you just colored your hair but want to change your look, it’s best to wait at least two weeks before coloring again. This period gives your hair a break from the chemicals and helps prevent damage; it also gives you an opportunity to condition and deep-treat your hair before another application.

    Henna and Haircolor

If your hair has been colored with henna, it’s best to wait until it grows out completely and is cut off before coloring it with permanent, chemically based haircolor. Applying haircolor over henna-colored hair can produce unpredictable results. Henna is not compatible with chemically based haircolor.

    Relaxer, Texturizer, or Perm

If your hair has been relaxed, texturized, or permed, wait two weeks before applying haircolor again. Also, read the L’Oréal product instructions to learn of any cautions or tips.

    Be Prepared

Before you start, make sure to read and follow all the instructions on product packaging. Perform a skin-allergy test 48 hours before you are planning to apply haircolor, even if you’ve never had an allergic reaction to haircolor. New allergies can develop suddenly, without warning. Do a strand test by applying color to a small section of hair before covering your whole head. This will give you an idea of how long to keep on the color mixture in order to achieve your desired results. It will also give you a preview of what your hair will look like.
