This is divided between instrumentals emphasizing the Celtic component of this Celtic-pop-rock group, and vocal numbers with more of an adult contemporary rock feel. It's an approach with much more crossover potential than most Celtic music, as evidenced by their success touring with Shania Twain. That doesn't mean this is better than other Celtic or Celtic-derived music, and in fact, in this case it means it's worse. Certainly their skills on fiddle (and no less than seven of the nine members play the instrument) are undoubted. But the drums have a dishearteningly slick mainstream pop thud, and the vocal material is really dull middle-of-the-road pop given Celtic trimmings. Yes, efforts to merge Celtic music with other forms to create something different and more flexible can be a good idea, but this definitely is not the best of both worlds. Richie Unterberger, Rovi
