The final evacuation from Vietnam in 1975 was even more dramatic than most people know. Cargo planes had flown refugees and soldiers out nonstop for eight desperate days but now the airport was destroyed, countless allies had been abandoned, and thousands of North Vietnamese were swarming into the city. The book uses recently declassified information and interviews, focusing on the last eleven marines to be flown out by helicopter at the last second, during the attack, after having voted to make a rooftop last stand like Davy Crockett at the Alamo against the imminent onslaught of North Vietnamese.
