Lucky (Paperback) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lucky Lucky is a gruesome, strangely interesting, and inspiring true story. Alice Sebold writes about how she was raped and her struggles to overcome it. The story starts off very graphic, but it captures your attention right away. In the rest of the story, she describes how her life dramatically changed and how she got through it. After telling her friends and family, she changed in their eyes. Alice never wanted anybody to pity her. She just wanted everybody to view her as a normal person, not a rape victim. Many people may think that shes unlucky because she was raped, but she was lucky to even be alive. Even though she went through this, she managed to stay strong and never gave up on trying to get her offender arrested. Rape is a hard subject to talk about, but she was able to share her story with the whole world. I thought that was very brave of her to do. This is a very entertaining book that teaches you to continue to stay strong no matter what happens.

Reviewer: Sally Eckhoff, (Salon)

"Whether or not you'd go out of your way to read anything that might be classified as a rape memoir, give Alice Sebold your attention for her first five pages and you're in for the whole ride. Written in a fever of unapologetic self-discipline, LUCKY is just about everything you'd expect it not to be. There's no expedition in search of psychic wounds, no yanking at your sleeve to get your conscience into the picture."
