Presents the complete comic series featuring Tove Jansson's observations of everyday life.
The Moomins, a family of trolls that mostly resemble cute hippopotamuses, first appeared in THE MOOMINS AND THE GREAT FLOOD in 1945, and soon became beloved characters throughout Scandinavia (they also have attracted a massive following in Japan). Created by Finnish cartoonist Tove Jansson, the Moomins inhabit a whimsical world occupied by ghosts, pirates, and much stranger creatures, like the soulful and melancholy Hattifatteners. Though lighthearted, the Moomin adventures often have a dark undercurrent, and the plots include catastrophes, suicide, abandonment, and mid-life crisis. The surreal humor of Jansson's Moomin's became available to an English audience in 1954 with the appearance of a Moomin comic in the London newspaper The Evening News. In THE COMPLETE TOVE JANSSON COMIC STRIP, Drawn Quarterly brings the beautiful nonsense of these newspaper comics into book form. This is the fourth volume in the series.
