Mr. Coffee Pump Espresso Maker - Black is rated 3.7778 out of 5 by 99.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Functionality I purchased this item to recreate coffeehouse favorites at home. My dream ended with the first use of the steam wand. Following each step provided, the steam wand failed to heat the milk to anything close to 'a warm beverage' and only created a few bubbles on top! (I worked as a barista for years, so feel I am pretty comfortable with a steam wand!) Even if it had worked, I couldn't fit any of my favorite mugs underneath the wand. Save your money. I returned mine, but had to pay return shipping-which was approximately half the price of the original item!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great espresso I have had this for about two years. Either the heating element or the circuit board just died this weekend - I'm not sure which - but at any rate it's time to buy a new one. However, I am keeping the five star rating because I think it's 99% my fault that the thing died...I tend to leave it on all the time. Like, ALL the time. For instance, I've been gone the last four days and left it on the whole time. I'm no expert but I would guess that forgetting to turn it off probably has something to do that it simply burned out over a couple years. So I highly recommend this product (simple, makes outstanding espresso, very affordable) but if you do buy one, please remember to turn it off after use. Luckily it's pretty affordable - I am just going to buy another one from Amazon ASAP.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect little espresso machine I've owned 2 of these over the last 5 years and they're fantastic little machines! The first I gave to my boyfriend (so I could have espresso at his house) and the 2nd has lasted me over 3 years now. I was a barista for years and ran an indie coffee shop for awhile, so I never thought anything could compare to a real machine, but this little guy is pretty incredible! At one point I even bought a $600 machine from another brand, thinking it would be better, but returned it 2 weeks later when I realized I missed my Mr. Coffee! It's small, so it doesn't take up much counter space and it's really easy to use. This model has enough water pressure to pull the perfect espresso shot (provided the beans are ground just right) and the steam wand makes microfoam (if you remove the black plastic piece). The bottom line is, if you know what you're doing, this will make a latte every bit as good as your favorite espresso shop.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Inexpensive way to try home espresso. This machine is decent for intro level espresso making. Mine has lasted fine, although I know others have had issues. First of all, where you should really spend your money if you want to try making espresso at home is on a high quality conical burr grinder. I think a lot of people who have issues with this espresso machine plugging up, leaking, or not having the pressure to push through the grounds are probably trying to use a blade grinder. If you are interested in why that is an issue you can explore that topic further yourself, but suffice to say it can cause problems in less expensive pump machines like this. I have quite a bit of experience with other high end espresso machines to compare this to. If you: 1.) Use a high quality grinder to produce evenly ground beans, and 2.) don't over pack the grounds into the hopper, 3.) follow the instructions, this machine IS capable of producing a very appropriate "intro" level cup of espresso. If you want some of the more extreme shot styles look elsewhere. Like I said, mine has not died or had functionality issues so I don't have much comment in that regard.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Makes good coffee when it works. I originally bought this coffee maker a few years ago and it made a decent cup of expresso/cappucino. However, in less than a year it suddenly stopped working, just wouldn't turn on. My husband bought another one to replace it (same model) and I have had it a for a few years, but last year it started leaking from the back bottom of the item. The machine still works, but leaks (alot) everytime I use it. it is frustrating and as I look for a replacement I will not buy another one of this model. Still not sure if I want to buy this brand. As I have read many complaints online about this very problem with this model I am flabbergasted that the price of this model actually increased. They shouldn't be charging nearly $150 (regular prince) for an item in which they have yet to fix a commonly known problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly Good! I purchased this machine a month ago for a quick cheap temporary replacement to a $600 machine that died. WOW, what a surprise. This Mr. Coffee is no piece of junk. The build quality is great for the money and there are no weaknesses. The pump has all the pressure you need. Even with most micro-grinds like Illy, you still get a perfect flow and crema. The portafilter is of the pressurized type and performs flawlessly. These machines are the espresso bargain of the century. A great starter machine and even good for the expert. I am totally satisfied and am still amazed with it! Definite "Best Buy".
