more details

Plagued by unpredictable blackouts after a childhood accident claimed the life of his brother, Wesley (Gerald McRaney) discovers that he is the prime suspect in the brutal consecutive murders of women with whom he is intimately involved. This low-budget and aggressively downbeat horror effort, shot on-location in New Orleans, borrows heavily from Psycho, but substitutes sadism and copious (if not particularly well executed) gore for suspense and solid scripting. The producers' promotional devices are far more enjoyable that the film itself. Its central gimmick, "Violent Vision," is a barrage of psychedelic visual effects in an attempt to suggest Wesley's fractured mental state; in addition to this, the sum of 1,000 dollars was offered to the family of any patron who died during a screening. As such, Night will provide some amusing moments for low-budget horror fans and students of exploitation ballyhoo. Several members of the cast, including McRaney, returned the following year for director Joy N. Houck Jr.'s similar Women and Bloody Terror. Paul Gaita, All Movie Guide
