This retelling of the famous tale of the little man who helped a desperate girl spin straw into gold is told with rebuses
When a miller's daughter boasts that she can spin straw into gold, she is ordered by the king to do so. Knowing that the king will have her killed if she does not complete this task, the girl accepts the bargain offered to her by a strange little man: he will spin the straw into gold if she will give him her first-born child. Years later, after the girl has married the king and become a queen, the mysterious man reappears to claim his reward: her newborn baby. Now the only way the queen can keep her child is if she can guess the stranger's name.
