Product Information

This attempt to do a low-budget, regional variation on Bonnie And Clyde is likeably earnest but has little else to offer. The episodic script has an interesting framing device and offers a decent amount of action yet it fails to satisfy because it never develops its characters or gives the drama room to breathe. Karen Black gives an interesting performance in a limited role but Fabian Forte's performance lacks the intensity and emotional depth needed to anchor the film. Finally, Luke Moberly and Bob Woodburn's direction is too crude and rushed to give the film the style or dramatic weight it needs to take flight. It's also worth noting that the film has a rather strident musical score whose modern affectations often clash with the period setting. Ultimately, Little Laura Big John is too misguided to work despite its good intentions. Fans of rural crime fare are better off sticking with Dillinger or The Grissom Gang.
