Seemed great and wonderfully affordable. I read the reviews about it jamming and thought it was user error and mine would be fine. I'm fairly experienced with sewing. Been a few years but I still do know what I'm doing. It was fine and perfect until all of a sudden it started messing up stitches. The usual tension adjustments are not solving the problem. Thought I had it solved when it started tangling around the bobbin. Still jams when hand-turning it. Re-threaded repeatedly and it is still jamming. My last attempt at solving snapped the needle in half. The machine is made with poor quality parts and construction which caused somethign to get misaligned somewhere and now its shot. I suggest you either save your money and just buy clothes. or else invest in a better quality machine. Another brand... I'm reading that this is typical for Singer across the board.

This is without a doubt a great machine. It has just enough features to do the everyday sewing you need plus make clothing and craft items. I had a Brother brand sewing machine that cost twice as much and it's junk compared to this machine. Singer is a great company with a long history in sewing machines. Definitely get this machine!!!!

Was little reluctant to purchase because reviews. I have an old singer that my father bought my mother when she was pregnant with me. That was way over 40 years ago. I am an amiture sewer and know a little from what my mother taught me. This machine is perfect. I am sewing together recycled wool and cashmere sweaters and making blankets. I wasn't sure if it would work because of the thinckness of the material, but it has been amazingly easy. Less frustration then imagined. I did watch a couple tutorials on utube as I was threading the machine and loading the bobbin. This was a big help. The manual was a bit hard to follow when threading machine. It is actually quite similar to my old machine but way lighter!! This machine has been well worth the [$] and a trip to Target. Only thing I would change would be the reverse switch would be easier if it could be locked into place and you didn't have to hold down with finger. Thanx for reading...

I've been sewing for forty years and know my way around a machine. We bought this for our ten year old daughter as a Xmas gift and for the price, it's a great value. When you first take it out of the box, give it a bit of a warm-up, sew on a practice swatch to get the oil moving through the parts so they're well lubricated. It leaked oil on the thread for the first few feet of sewing and did jam up. I also noticed if you sew all out it can break the thread. After sewing for a while it was f ine. I have a top of the line Singer bought thirty years ago and have a feeling this may end up being my go-to machine for quick projects because it's so lightweight. I was also impressed with the buttonhole making attachment and range of useful stitches. Sewing on a poor quality machine can be frustrating for a new sewer and this machine is a good bet if you don't want to spend too much money and get a machine that will function.

I was a little aprehensive due to the price of the machine, but it went on sale and I figured I couldn't go wrong. It has turned out to be a great sewing machine! I read reviews and did what some suggested...sewed for a little while on a scrap piece of material to get the oils moving...threaded the bobbin correctly and read a little about it. I LOVE the sewing machine. I have made my grand daughter's nursery decor with it. I hope she likes it.

Thought the bobbin wasn't workingbut watched a video on you tube on how to wind a bobbin and now that I'm doing it right it works great. Manual was pretty good but it's hard to show bobbin loading in a book. Wish it could go at a slower speed but other than that it's a keeper.

This is a basic, starter sewing machine that won't last a lifetime and, yes, it is made out of plastic. However, that is ok for the type, and price, of machine. Most people complained about the tension and the bobbin. I experienced issues with these things at first too, but was able to get them figured out and now the machine works well. So, read the manual BEFORE you start sewing and check out "Installing a Front Load Bobbin," by Singer, on YouTube. Enjoy sewing!

I was a looking for a machine that would have basic features like: basic stitches, zipper foot, button hole, darning, mechanical and was within [my budget] with a steel inner frame and steel foot. I had looked at other such machines at [other stores] for [around the same price] but they had a plastic foot and other plastic parts.[...]I am happy to have bought this. I tried all the stitches yesterday and they look beautiful. I am happy that I found this machine as it meets all my needs and sews well too.I also had my neighbor who is a more experienced seamstress look at this and she approved of it for my basic needs and usage

[..] It is wonderful! I can't believe how well it works for the price! I am super happy! I have had no trouble with it at all...I have sewn a couple of simple quilts with it so far, that's a lot of thickness to deal with, and it has worked perfectly. This is a basic machine..for the sale price I paid, I am extremely pleased. It would have cost more to repair my 40 year old Singer than it did to buy this brand new one. Well worth trying if you're looking for something to use for repairing or ba sic stitching, although it does have added features and stitches. Highly recommend!

This machine jammed continually and the timing between the neddle and bobbin seemed off. I couldn't get it to work so I returned it to the store and purchased a Brother from [retailer]. I've used sewing machines for years, so I was very surprised how poorly this Singer operated.
