Product Information

This release from Silverline, a division of the Sanctuary Records Group, is the DVD-Audio version of Sanctuary's 2001 release of the same name. The track listing is identical, excluding the Kinks' "You Really Got Me" and "Well Respected Man," which for whatever reason (technology or licensing issues) do not appear on this DVD audio edition of the set. While the sound quality of the release is notable (audiophiles will note the 5.1 surround and Dolby Digital options), The British Are Coming is also enjoyable simply as a well put-together compilation of 1960s U.K. singles. Hits like the Searchers' "Love Potion Number Nine" and the Tremeloes' rollicking version of "Here Comes My Baby" share space with lesser-known (on this side of the Atlantic, anyway) cuts like "He's in Town" from the Rockin' Berries and the Ivy League's "Tossing and Turning." The striking faux-Motown swing of the Foundations' "Baby, Now That I've Found You" is also a highlight. In addition to its stellar set list and space-age fidelity, The British Are Coming also includes extensive liner notes, artist photos, and essays surrounding the British Invasion. Johnny Loftus, Rovi
