For years, Robert Englund, better known as Freddy Krueger, has turned a buck lending "credibility" to brainless slasher movies by appearing in bit parts. Now, Betsy Palmer, the woman who played Jason's murderous mother in Friday the 13th, gets in on the action, turning up in The Fear: Halloween Night. She plays the aging matriarch in a family poisoned by "the fear" that transforms its male progenies into serial killers. Palmer's grandson (Gordon Currie) invites a posse of his wisecracking friends -- who are meat from the word go -- to a Halloween-night ceremony meant to exorcise the curse. Instead, a wooden mannequin comes to life and begins offing them. Apparently, no one involved with this movie got the memo that today's horror movies must be self-aware. But they did hear that horror movies spawn sequels, which is why this tangentially related film is touted as a follow-up to 1995's equally dismal The Fear. Derek Armstrong, All Movie Guide
