Description
Storing edible foodstuffs on board the Enterprise can utilize three methods: 1 - As mere patterns in the replicator systems. 2 - Molecular cryo-stasis. 3 - Mechanical preservation. Storing food in the replicator systems is 100% efficient, but any true gourmand would say replicated food is a poor imitation of the real thing.
Cryostasis is a near perfect method of storage, but its energy consumption makes it impractical for daily use. This is why, even in the 24th century, simple vacuum-sealed mechanical containers are still in use.
This set of four containers are well suited for items which, if exposed to the elements, would encourage spoilage or off smells or flavors. Store your sugar, flour, fresh coffee beans, or jumja sticks. While your food items may not stay pristine indefinitely, they will last longer than loose slip of latinum on a Ferengi sidewalk.
