Millions know Portia de Rossi as the gorgeous star of television shows like ALLY MCBEAL and ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT. Until the release of this 2010 memoir, many did not know that the lithe actor was also a long-time sufferer of anorexia and bulimia nervosa. She spares no detail in describing her struggle with her eating disorder--which at one point left her weighing less than 90 pounds--and with the painful suppression of her true sexuality. She takes full responsibility for the disorder but does not shy away from tales of the brutally competitive Hollywood machine and studio employees who were complicit in her self-destructive efforts to be unnaturally thin. The story ends happily when de Rossi realizes that she needs to learn how to eat for her health and not for her image, and that coming out as a lesbian is far healthier than pretending to be something she's not. She also speaks of the great support she received from her relationship and eventual marriage to talk show host Ellen Degeneres.
