Ursula, the morphine-addicted, teenage companion of van Gogh, is looking for her dealer when she steps through a wall that transports her to present-day New York. She tells her story to Louis, a downtrodden alcoholic photographer, and, with his help, quickly assimilates to her new surroundings. When she finally manages to return to Vincent, the two of them find they can no longer perceive one another according to their old habits.
