Fantastic monitor! Despite our thick plaster walls, the units transfer sound well. My only complaint is that when we use rechargeable batteries in the parent units- the batteries don't seem to last long. We have taken to keeping the parent units plugged in, which works. I would still highly recommend them!

Does the job!
I wanted something simple and easy just to track if baby was awake or crying in her room. This monitor is easy to set up and clear as day! I can hear everything perfectly and it even blocks out her sound machine.

We liked the item and work well for what we needed them for!!!
The monitors took no time to install and we should have ordered them I long time ago!!...we are not using them as a baby monitor, but as an elderly monitor!!...we live in a house with a finished basement that has a bathroom, living area and a kitchen and my Mother-in-law lives there so we needed something to hear her calling us if she needed one of us and that works well for that reason!!!

Okay for the price but has a major drawback
I received this baby monitor for free in return for offering my opinion on it's quality and use.
- The monitor itself is small and doesn't have overly bright lights on the front.
- It comes with two parent units so you can have one in the living room or kitchen and keep one in your bedroom.
- Everything comes assembled and ready to use, you just have to plug it in.
- You can easily adjust the volume up or down using the buttons on the front.
- If you prefer it to be completely muted, there is a "visual sound indicator" which is just a row of LED lights that will light up when sound is detected.
- Can also be used with batteries and has a belt clip if someone wants to wear it around.
- The "visual sound indicator" does not seem very sensitive. It seemed to take a lot of crying / talking for it to pick it up so if you're not watching it intently you would miss seeing the lights.
- It does not pick-up white noise. This may actually be a "pro" for some people but it's what bothered me the most about this monitor. We use a sound machine in my son's room that makes ocean sounds. With my old baby monitor, I would always hear what was going on in the room, sort of like a live-feed, whether that's just the sound machine or the baby crying but it was like being in the room.
With this monitor, it only transmits sound to the parent unit that's loud enough to do so. For a while, I thought the signal was not working properly so I tested it several times with my husband and realized this is just the way this monitor works.
The thing that was especially annoying about this is the monitor would at times intermittently pick-up the white noise which would often wake me up even though the baby was asleep. It was very inconsistent but the fact it was mainly muted I found more irritating than being able to always hear what was going on the room and adjust the volume as needed.
I think this monitor is fine for the price and does a standard job if you don't mind the aspect of it mainly producing what sounds like a dead signal which left me always wondering if it was working.

I got the baby monitor for free. My son is 2 years old and sleeping in his own bed and room so these monitors came in handy. Packaging: The packaging was simple and not too much. The products included the main monitor and 2 speakers. All parts were individually wrapped so it made it easy to distract from the box. ASSEMBLY: The only assembling that was required was to plus in the outlet cord or insert batteries. My first try to input batteries it did not work. The signs showing the direction of the batteries are small and hard to read. However once I figured the correct way to insert the batteries it was no trouble. POSITIVES: The main monitor stayed in my sonâs room and stayed plugged up. The 2 individual speakers were used with batteries when we were in a different room and when stationed in the living room I kept the speaker plugged up. The speakers have good volume control. No matter if battery operated or plugged up I had no issues with the monitors. The monitors will mute sound if it is just a consistent TV or music noise. However it does give periodic sound checks. This helps me to ensure the monitors were still working. Anytime my son made a noise the monitors picked up it up immediately. PROBLEMS: The speakers seem to run through batteries. I used regular off brand batteries so I am unsure if it was the batteries themselves or the speakers pulling the juice faster. Overall I enjoy this product and would recommend it to anyone.

Now that I'm used to it, I like it!
We've been using the VTech Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitors for a week and a half, and right off the bat my husband loved them because they are so quiet--no unnecessary background noises. It took me a bit longer to trust them, but now I'm sold and very happy with the product.
BACKSTORY: I was really excited to try these baby monitors, which I received for free for my honest opinion about them.
ASSEMBLY: I opened the box and put them together (some minor assembly is required), and started reading the instructions. It seemed fairly straight forward. I plugged the baby monitor in the baby room and put one of the parent's monitors (my set came with two) in our bedroom and the other downstairs in the family room, replacing my 12 year old Baby Monitor. Then, we tried them out. Keep in mind that to turn them on you have to press and hold for a few seconds. Had I been really paying attention to the instructions, I would have been prepared for this. Anyway, I had one of my daughters go into the baby's room and talk constantly while I walked around and listened to both monitors. Worked great. Clear sounds and there was no feedback because of my cell phone (my old monitors had this problem and it does warn that the VTECH can also have this issue); I was really happy. And then night came and it was showtime.
The first thing I noticed about the output on the monitor was that it is quiet unless there's a noise. So, in other words, once the monitor picked up and identified the baby music and white noise machine in the room, it went into silent mode (by this I mean that there was no noise coming out of the parent monitor, even though I knew there was music and white noise happening in the room). I thought at first it had lost the signal to the baby monitor and I was not happy. I turned the monitor on and off; it picked up the white noise and music again, and then went silent. My husband was thrilled because he doesn't like all the background noise. I thought, "What a piece of junk, it's lost the signal again!" and I wanted to get out the old monitor. My husband convinced me to be patient and explained that was how they worked. The baby monitor picks up only new or changing sounds and will broadcast that (which is why it picked up my daughter's chatter), but if it's a continual background noise, like the white noise machine, it remains silent. And it stays silent until the baby starts to fuss (new noises), and then you can hear it clear as a bell.
PROS: Granted, we've only had them a short while but they seem to work great. They are more streamlined with a smaller footprint than our old monitors. A nice feature is that the parent's monitors have a battery option (batteries not included). I wanted to see if I could take the monitor outside and succeeded walking all over our backyard. I was trying to time how long they'd last with just the battery, but a helpful child plugged it back in, so I never figured that out. Sorry. I thought that they worked great with fresh batteries and for a short period of time. I did experiment with them and was able to drive up and down my cul-de-sac with one of the battery operated parent monitors and it maintained the signal, though obviously it grew weaker the further I drove from the house. It did eventually loose the signal when I tried to leave my street and it gave three rapid chirps, just as the instructions said it would. I love that there's no feedback and no random static crackles during the middle of the night (a problem the old monitors had).
CONS: I do think an area of improvement would be if the manufacturer explained why they are quiet in more detail. It would have saved me the initial freakout and negative thoughts regarding the product. Also, you do have to hold them for 3 seconds to turn them on and off, but that's more annoying than anything else.
OVERALL: We really like them and haven't had any problem.

Does the job, but one major con
I received a free sample of this baby monitor to review; overall, I would say that while it does it's intended job, it certainly has room for improvement.
PROS: This monitor is a good price comparatively and is very easy to use and simple to get started using. I didn't need to look at the directions in order to understand how to use it, although the directions seem very clear in case you would need to use them. The parent monitors connect quickly to the sound receiving base. This set comes with two parent units, which I LOVE! It's so nice to be able to leave one in the living room and one in the bedroom, instead of having to bring one back and forth everyday. Both parent monitors come with plug-ins and use batteries as backup in case of a power outage. It also detects even small sounds which is comforting to me as a mom. At this point, I was thrilled with this product - I didn't think there would be anything I didn't like. However, there is one problem with this monitor that is a deal breaker for me...
CON: The parent monitor sets only make noise when it detects a sound. Most monitors will have a constant white noise sound and then when your baby/toddler makes sound you simply hear it through the white noise. This monitor is much different. It is literally silent until it detects a sound. When this happens, you not only hear the sound come through the monitor but also the white noise sound. Once the baby/toddler sound stops, the units are silent again. Initially, I thought this might be a nice feature until I tried to sleep with it on. Anytime my daughter would roll over and accidentally knock the side of her crib with her hand, it would turn on with the white noise background for a split second and then turn of again because it the sound was so brief. This constant differing of sounds would constantly wake me up. Don't get me wrong, I want to be woken when my daughter is crying or needs something, but no parent needs to be woken off and on all night due to the slightest sound. If the white noise sound were constant on this monitor like it is on most, I never would have woken from the small noises. It was simply the white noise suddenly turning on and then off that would wake me. Unfortunately, because of this I would not recommend this product to my friends or family. If this one feature were different, I would absolutely be able to do that, and wouldn't hesitate buying it for myself, as well.
