The main selling point for me was that this item is made of clay so it is lead-free and aluminum-free as opposed to other brands that leach "acceptable" levels of toxins into your food. My chicken dishes come out very tender but I haven't mastered the rice cooking yet. The instructions say to follow rice package instructions, however the cooker cooks (heats) effectively so I may need to adjust rice cooking time to compensate for the efficient heating process. You can really taste the layers of flavors and ingredients when using this cooker. Meaning the clay (unlike enamel) does not detract from the taste of your food so you get authentic flavors. This is a plus, but I feel the extra pressure of having to use the right ratio of ingredients because of the clarity in the taste of the food. I would highly recommend it.
This is a fine product. I love the choices in settings. The only drawback is the size. My previous slow cooker was much larger. This may be good or bad depending on how you look at it. For my husband and me, it is ok because it forces us to cook less at one time. However, the downside is one is forced to cook more often. The upside is you won't get sick of eating the same thing or have to freeze a lot of food. Depends on how you look at it. It is really very cool.
